For years, many people were encouraged to replace butter with margarine and other products containing trans fats. But what happened when researchers looked at long-term health outcomes?

In this clip, the discussion explores research linking trans fats, sodium, and meat with healthy aging, along with a controversial perspective on plant oils.

⚠️ This video discusses research findings and personal opinions. It is intended for educational purposes and is not medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making significant dietary changes.

The omega-3 to omega-6 ratio should sit somewhere around 1:3 to 1:5.

In modern populations living in cities, 1:20 is common. Sometimes 1:40 or 1:45.

My own ratio when I tested it years ago was 1:45.

Both omega-3 and omega-6 are polyunsaturated fatty acids, but they have opposite effects on inflammation. Omega-6 promotes it. Omega-3 resolves it. When the ratio is this skewed, the body's inflammatory signalling has no counterweight.

Seed oils: canola, sunflower, soybean, are almost pure omega-6. And they're in practically everything you eat with a label.

This isn't about avoiding fat. It's about eating fats that don't silently maintain a state of systemic inflammation that no amount of gut healing work can fully overcome.

The ancestral human diet had almost none of these. Even 100 years ago, we weren't eating them in these quantities or in this form.

If you're not healing, your ratio is worth looking at.

f you have an autoimmune condition and you are still eating seed oils, they could be undermining your progress.
Sameer Dossani explains why the omega-3 to omega-6 ratio matters, and why modern diets are often overloaded with omega-6 from oils like canola, sunflower, and soybean oil.

Canola oil. Sunflower oil. Soybean oil.

You're probably eating them every day, and you can't taste them, smell them, or see them.

They're in:
— Salad dressings (including ""healthy"" ones)
— Restaurant cooking (including grilled meat)
— Crackers, granola bars, protein bars
— Most packaged foods with a label

One of my clients thought her diet was completely clean. When I asked her to photograph her labels, I found expeller-pressed canola oil in the dressing she used daily. Once we removed it, she healed quickly.

The fix in theory is simple: replace seed oils with ancestrally appropriate fats, extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, beef tallow, butter, ghee, lard. Fats that don't oxidise quickly, don't skew your omega-6 ratio, and weren't produced in an industrial factory.

The harder part is finding the hidden ones. That requires reading every label. If a food has a label, check it. If it contains canola, sunflower, or soybean oil and you're not healing, remove it completely.

💬 What's the most surprising place you've found seed oils hiding?

Your body was never designed to process these.

The three seed oils you're most likely consuming right now:
🔸 Canola oil (rapeseed oil)
🔸 Sunflower oil
🔸 Soybean oil

These aren't new ingredients, but the way they're produced today is completely new. Industrial extraction. High heat. Chemical processing. And a step called deodorisation: if you could smell these oils straight off the machine, you'd know they were rancid. The smell has to be removed before you'd accept them on your plate.

The result is an oil that's already oxidised before it reaches you.

Oxidised polyunsaturated fats react with oxygen in the body and are directly involved in inflammatory disease processes. For someone with an already compromised gut, this isn't background noise, it could be the reason you're not healing.

And your doctor almost certainly hasn't mentioned it. Many are still calling these oils ""heart-healthy.""

💬 Save this and share it with someone who's doing everything right and still not getting better.

The most dangerous part of Crohn’s or colitis isn’t the flare you can feel.

It’s the quiet stretch between flares — when you feel fine, and assume that means you’re healing.

Here’s the part nobody warns you about: “no symptoms” is not the same as “no damage.”

Inflammation can keep simmering under the surface long after the cramping and urgency settle down. Quiet. Invisible. Painless.

And while it simmers:

→ The bowel wall can slowly scar and narrow — this is how strictures form
→ Iron, B12 and magnesium quietly stop absorbing — the fatigue you blame on “getting older”
→ The runway shrinks, until one day the options left are stronger drugs or surgery

None of that announces itself. That’s exactly why it’s dangerous.

The symptom-free gaps feel like permission to relax and wait for the next flare. For a lot of people, that waiting is the most expensive decision they make.

I’m not telling you this to scare you. I’m telling you because the calm windows are the best time to actually lower the inflammation — not just ride it out.

So use them. Keep eating to calm your gut even when you feel fine. And ask your doctor about a calprotectin test — it can reveal inflammation you can’t feel.

Feeling okay isn’t the finish line. Healing is.

I got a comment I couldn't stop thinking about.

Sameer, I did everything right. I cut the fiber. I followed everything you recommended. My gut is still flaring.""

Here's what I told them.

The fiber was never the whole picture. For a lot of people who are doing the gut work correctly and still not healing, the problem isn't what they think it is.

It's seed oils.

Not because they're eating obvious junk food. But because seed oils are invisible. They're in salad dressings, restaurant meals, crackers, granola bars. Canola oil sprayed on a steak before it hits the grill. You can be eating what looks like a clean diet and still consuming them constantly.

If you've cut the fiber and you're still not healing, this is what to look at next.

💬 Drop a comment if you thought your diet was clean and still weren't getting results.

You will not think your way out of this. You have to step your way out.

The most common place I see people with Crohn's and UC get stuck isn't the diagnosis. It's the paralysis that follows — sometimes for years.

Researching every protocol. Reading every conflicting opinion. Saving posts (yes, like this one). Waiting until you understand it all before you change anything.

But information isn't what heals you. Action is.

And a small step taken today beats a perfect plan you'll start 'once you've figured it all out' — because that day rarely comes.

So stop trying to find the right step. Just take a step:

— Cook one meal in butter instead of seed oil
— Eat protein and salt, skip the snack after
— Throw out the canola oil tonight
— Take a 10-minute walk after dinner
— Book the appointment you've been putting off

It matters far less which one you pick than that you move. Because momentum, not information, is what gets you out of the spin.

If you've been reading about gut healing for months or years and you're still in the same place — this is the post. One step today.

Want a simple path to follow once you've taken it? Comment READY and I'll DM you my free First 90 Days guide.
