GDS Horn of Africa Program (HOAP)

GDS Horn of Africa Program (HOAP) HOAP is a GDS service-learning program that takes students and faculty members to Ethiopia and Kenya each summer.

On this trip, GDSers work primarily with 3 organizations.
• Project Mercy, located in the Ethiopian countryside, is a comprehensive rural development program with an exemplary school, a hospital, craft apprentice shops, and an operating dairy farm.
• Hope for Children, located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, provides housing, education, and care for orphans, particularly those who have lost parents to H

IV/AIDS.
• Ray of Hope, located in Kenya, runs a school and a medical center in the heart of Nairobi’s slums.
