CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF MOVIES FOR GOOD IN D.C.

Hard to believe this year marks the 30th edition of Woodley House's Movie Benefit. We started in 1997 with the D.C. premiere of a little film called TITANIC (including special guest James Cameron), and have been proud to carry on the annual tradition started by Mary Margaret and Jack Valenti.

Over the years, Woodley House's Movie Benefit has welcomed big names from Hollywood, media and politics. For the hundreds of guests who walk the red carpet with us, the greatest pleasure comes from enjoying a new film with good friends in a classic movie theater.

Most importantly, the Movie Benefit raises critical funds for Woodley House programs, supporting Washingtonians who suffer from serious mental illness
and are at risk of chronic homelessness.

These are just some of the rave reviews for TONY, which will screen at our 30th Annual Movie Benefit on Sunday, November 8, at AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center.

Based on the early chapters of Anthony Bourdain’s memoir “Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly,” TONY focuses on the 19-year-old Bourdain and his travels to Provincetown in 1975. As he stumbles into the chaotic world of a restaurant kitchen, it sets off a summer that will shape the course of his life.

Located in DC's Shepherd Park neighborhood, our Holly House residence has been serving clients for more than 40 years. The beautiful house and property functions as a long-term group home for individuals facing serious mental illness, and also features an apartment for Supported Independent Living clients.

We were fortunate this week to have our friend Thom Wolf Photo & Video visit Holly House to photograph a resident's birthday party.

Thom has more than 30 years' experience creating photos and video for networks, theaters, individuals, nonprofits, and corporate clients. Many thanks again to Thom for helping to capture the joy and love in Woodley House's residential programs. (All photos by Thom Wolf)

This week we're glad to be hosting a visit from Kate and Alon, two members of the Eleos Health team. Since last year, Woodley House has been using Eleos's A.I. platform for community-based behavioral health care, which has been a gamechanger for our staff.

The Eleos software makes it easy to capture notes during client meetings, while maintaining client privacy and safety. Kate and Alon are meeting with Woodley House team members to better understand how we use the technology and how it can be improved.

We believe that innovative tools like Eleos represent a radical, positive change in behavioral health care. The A.I. reduces time spent on administrative tasks, allowing our frontline staff to spend more time building rapport and providing clients with essential support.

Thanks to Eleos Health for this great partnership -- now in its second year -- as well as Greater Washington Community Foundation and The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation for the generous grant funding that made this innovation possible for Woodley House.
