The Department of Psychology at Delaware State University, where I serve as Department Chair, has an online M. S. In Clinical Psychology
featuring two distinct tracks: a Counseling track leading toward professional licensure, and a Neuropsychology track centered on empirical research. Both online programs require 59–60 credit hours. We endeavor to grow and expand these programs! So if you have expertise in these areas and want to be a part of training diverse students with a social justice consciousness, please email me. We continue to grow and are looking for adjuncts and stable faculty to add to our student's training. Email me with your CV at: [email protected].

If you have students who would benefit from neurological and clinical training at a top public HBCU, hit me up as well or have them contact me and I will put them in contact with our Master program coordinator.

Let's continue to shift the field of mental health and neuroscience. Ase!

This week at the Emerging Leadership Institute at Delaware State University reminded me that leadership development is never finished..........it is continually REFINED.

I arrived with years of leadership experience, including serving as Department Chair at Hampton University/Faculty Diversity Chair International University, yet this experience challenged me to deepen my thinking, sharpen my discernment, and further nuance how I lead. The greatest leaders never stop learning.

I’m deeply grateful to our Dean, Provost, and the university’s administration for creating more than a leadership program. They have created a genuine process of investing in leaders at all stages.

Too often institutions celebrate leadership as a slogan. This week DSU intentionally cultivated it through reflection, dialogue, innovation, accountability, and community. That investment is both rare and transformative.

As I begin my tenure as Chair of the Department of Psychology at Delaware State University, I leave this week with an even stronger commitment to leading with humility, courage, relational integrity, and vision. I’m especially excited to continue developing a Black-centered, psychospiritual, and mindful model of leadership rooted in both scholarship and lived experience. One I hope will not only strengthen my department but also serve leaders well beyond this institution.

The work continues, and I’m grateful for the journey. Ashe!

Life has a funny way of recalibrating you.

The last several months have been some of the most clarifying of my life. Sometimes you’re removed from a place not because you’ve failed, but because you’ve finished OR because the environment can no longer sustain who you’re becoming. There is a difference.

This season gave me time to reflect, rebuild, and remember who I am outside of titles and expectations. It also reminded me who my genuine friends are. Special thanks to Dr. Vincent Walford, Dr. Ivory Toldson, Dr. Laconda Fanning, Dr. Leroy Hamilton, and my brother Lamman Rucker for showing up with wisdom, encouragement, and presence. I don’t take you for granted.

Returning to my clinical work has also been a gift. Walking alongside individuals, couples, and families in their healing reminded me why I became a psychologist-therapist.

Today, I’m honored to begin my next assignment as Department Chair of Psychology and Associate Professor at Delaware State University.

I look forward to partnering with an already exceptional faculty as we continue elevating DSU Psychology through innovative scholarship, outstanding teaching, meaningful mentorship, and intentional leadership.

My commitment remains the same:
Advancing healing, excellence, liberation, and truth through Black-centered, decolonial, psychospiritual, and psychoanalytic psychology while preparing the next generation of scholars, clinicians, and leaders.

And because apparently I don’t know how to sit down… šŸ˜‚

šŸ‘€ Be on the lookout for the return of the Black Decolonial Psychology Conference. We’re coming back bigger, sharper, and more interdisciplinary in scope and focus.

To everyone who prayed, encouraged me, challenged me, referred clients, invited me to speak, bought a book, or simply believed in me, THANK YOUšŸ™šŸæ

Here’s to purpose, partnership, and the next chapter!

Let’s get to work. Ase!

PASTORS STOP IT! Get you a psychologist and/or other mental health professional on staff to help minister and consult. Or go back to school and get credentialed!! Stop it!!!!!!!

We are losing too many of our folks because our practical theology is pedestrian at best........A psycho-spiritual approach based in the ability to assess/evaluate from a nuanced perspective is not just "caught in the spirit".........It comes from nuanced training and the capacity to understand how to interpret and help someone integrate....

PASTORS STOP IT!!!
