Did you know? According to a recent U.S. Census Bureau report, the number of people in the United States who spoke a language other than English at home nearly tripled from 23.1 million (about 1 in 10) in 1980 to 67.8 million (almost 1 in 5) in 2019.

In addition, the foreign-born population in the United States has grown considerably. In 1970, it numbered 9.6 million (4.7 percent) of the total U.S. population. By 2022, it was estimated to be 46.2 million (13.9 percent) of the total U.S. population.

ASHA has compiled a list of resources for more than 30 languages and dialects to promote foundational awareness of potential cultural and linguistic influences on English sound production. Find it here: https://www.asha.org/practice/multicultural/phono/

The proposed 2027 Medicare Part B Rule includes significant changes that could affect speech-language pathology services, reimbursement, and coding practices. TSHA encourages Texas SLPs and audiologists to review the proposal and consider submitting comments to CMS before the September 14 deadline.
