Midwife of the Week: Nancy Jo Reedy, CNM, MPH, FACNM

This week we honor the life and legacy of Nancy Jo Reedy, CNM, MPH, FACNM.

Nancy devoted her life to advancing midwifery through clinical care, education, mentorship, leadership, and service. From her early days leading maternity services in Texas to educating future generations of midwives, she was known for her professionalism, compassion, and commitment to excellence.

Nancy was passionate about supporting new graduates, strengthening maternity care services, and helping others discover their own calling to midwifery. She remained active in professional organizations throughout her career and was recognized by colleagues for her integrity, generosity, and dedication to families and communities.

Many midwives practicing today were inspired by Nancy's guidance, mentorship, and example.

Join us as we celebrate her extraordinary contributions to midwifery and honor a life dedicated to serving others.

πŸ’œThank you, Nancy, for the legacy you leave behind.

Will you or someone you love be pregnant during respiratory virus season?

August is National Immunization Awareness Month ( ), and now is a great time to learn about vaccines recommended during pregnancy. The 2026 Maternal Immunization Schedule was developed and endorsed by leading U.S. maternity care organizations, including the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM), to support informed, evidence-based care for pregnant people and newborns.

Talk with your midwife about which immunizations may be right for you and your growing family.

Midwife of the Week: Carol Anne Bues, DNP

This week, we honor the life and legacy of Carol Anne Bues, DNP, a dedicated midwife, educator, advocate, and champion for families throughout New York City.

Carol's path to midwifery began after volunteering at Harlem Hospital, where caring for vulnerable mothers and newborns inspired her lifelong commitment to compassionate, person-centered care. She went on to earn degrees from Hunter College, SUNY Downstate, and SUNY Stony Brook, becoming both a respected clinician and educator.

As a practicing midwife, Carol delivered hundreds of babies in their family homes across New York City, helping families experience birth with dignity, trust, and support. She also shared her knowledge with future generations of nurses and midwives as a lecturer at Lehman College and adjunct faculty member at CUNY Hunter Bellevue School of Nursing.

Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched, the students she mentored, and the families she served.

Join us in celebrating and remembering Carol Anne Bues and her remarkable contributions to midwifery. πŸ’™

Help a Future Midwife Find Their Professional Home

Every year, talented midwifery students enter ACME-accredited programs ready to serve women and families. Yet for some, the cost of professional membership becomes a barrier to joining the very community that will support them throughout their careers.

Through ACNM's Sponsor a Student Membership Campaign, we're raising $5,000 to fund 50 student memberships.

A gift of $100 provides one full year of national ACNM membership, connecting a student to mentorship, clinical resources, continuing education, and a network of more than 4,000 CNMs and CMs.

Every gift counts. Every student matters.
