Of course we want our births to go smoothly, just as we plan them. We crave predictability and control.

And yet no matter how many classes we take or hypnobirthing tracks we listen to, plans still go awry.

This is not a failure. This is life.

Obstacles crop up. Plans fall through.

But you know what?

We’ve done hard things before. We’ve found our way.

So instead of focusing on “what if things go differently than I planned” ask yourself “what makes me feel safe and supported?”

Lock in on the tools you’ve used in the past to navigate unexpected situations. Don’t wait for labor to begin - start putting them into practice today.

Share what has worked for you!

Giving this ✨️announcement✨️ a permanent spot on the grid!

While our birth clients get the benefit of joining our group workshops from pregnancy-postpartum as part of their support (and some of the months/topics will stay exclusive to our clients), we heard the interest and need for more of these spaces in the wider community, so we are spreading the love! 💛

Make sure you are following Golden Thread Doulas to stay posted on open workshops coming up, also find this info on our website.

We are thrilled to announce June's workshop, Moving Through Pregnancy!

With our guest facilitator, fellow Waukesha doula, yoga instructor, mom of 5, and sweet friend, Morgan Farkas of Millie Birth and Wellness. 💕🌻

We are equally excited to announce that this is the first Golden Thread workshop that we are completely OPENING TO THE COMMUNITY to come join us! 🎉

This is something we felt called to after a lot of public interest since we first started hosting our workshops, and in that spirit of community - we welcome you!

Whether you're a woman who is going through preconception, pregnancy, or postpartum, (or a supportive dad!)

Come in your comfy clothes and ready to get interactive - practice and understand intentional movements and breathwork to support your body and mind throughout your journey.

Morgan has also generously included her printable Breathe into Birth ebook for everyone in attendance! This is a great tool to continue diving into the practices you've learned, even after the workshop is over.

We make our workshops fun and relaxed, encouraging open conversation, questions, and sharing (and some delicious snacks and drinks!)

We can't wait to have you✨️💛🧘‍♀️

"You're doulas so, you all had homebirths right?"

Sometimes people are curious about what we chose for our own birth experiences, and there is often the assumption that as doulas, we must have always chosen homebirth!

But our journies are like any other woman's. Each of us birthing our babies how we felt was best and needed at that given moment in our life, with the support and resources we had.

For some of us that looked like choosing community birth with midwifery care. Others of us had a variety of different kinds of births in different locations.

Between us 3 Golden Thread Doulas, we have 9 babies ➡️ 6 hospital births at different locations (some medicated, some unmedicated), 1 birth center birth, 1 midwife attended homebirth, 1 unassisted homebirth.

With each birth new lessons are learned and we are transformed, bending and shifting our inner landscape. We never birth as the same woman twice!

We are all mothers doing our best in any given moment with the information and resources we have for ourselves, our babies, and our family.

There is so much beauty in this ever changing transformation, and the power of choice.

We feel thankful for our own birth experiences and the way they have shaped us as women, and doulas who show up for women exactly where they are.

We are back with Part 2 of Breaking the “Rules” in Birth!
We want to be your gentle reminder that this is no ones’s journey but your own. Meet that with a strong conviction and practice in pregnancy to see out your birth as you wish it to unfold!
RULE #6 -Being quiet during labor means you’re in control and you’re good at “it”.
BREAK IT -Birth is PRIMAL, allowing your mind to sink into that primal space and not using your thinking brain actually helps the labor progress. Making noise (even loud noises), can help you relax your body, release blocks and guide you in pushing your baby out. There is no right or wrong, or good or bad in birth.
RULE #7 -You cannot eat or drink while in labor. You must also get an IV.
BREAK IT -Your only doing the biggest workout of your entire life......why would you not want to nourish and hydrate yourself along that journey. There is evidence that says for most mommas, it is completely safe in labor. Hydration is especially important in order to keep effective contractions happening, as well then utilizing your bladder, an empty bladder helps baby decend! Proper oral hydration is the exact reason there would be no need for an IV.
RULE #8 -The lights need to be on and you must stay in the labor room. Bright lights are important so that the medical staff can see everything happening.
BREAK IT -IT IS YOUR BIRTH! Not the staff, medical team, your care provider or doulas. Set the atmosphere of your birth space however feels good to you. If that means dim lights, low voices and a calm environment, make it happen. Maybe you want to roam the halls, use hydrotherapy, birth balls and movement. Dream up the environment you envision for your birth and see it through.
RULE #9 -You should have your family and friends on alert or notify them while in labor. Having visitors right after your birth is normal.

“There is a moment in labor when no one can do it for you. Not your partner. Not your doula. Not your midwife or doctor. It’s you and your body...doing what only YOU can do. That moment is powerful, but it’s also something you can prepare for, because when you’ve practiced surrender, trust, and calm before labor begins, you’ll know how to find your footing when it comes.” -

The mental prep is just as important as the physical prep, you will never pull a tool from the toolbox you have never touched or tried before! We can help you peel back these layers in your prenatal appointments, contact us at www.goldenthreaddoulas.com
