One of Ayurveda's foundational ideas is surprisingly simple:

Like increases like, while opposing qualities can create balance.

Consider a crisp September day.

The air may feel cooler. The breeze is moving. Leaves begin drying. The environment gradually becomes lighter and less humid.

Ayurveda associates many of these qualities—cool, dry, light, and mobile—with Vata.

Traditional Ayurvedic teachings therefore explore their opposites during this season: warmth, moisture, nourishment, and steadiness.

This principle gives us a way to understand Ayurveda without immediately jumping into complicated routines or dosha quizzes.

Start with the qualities.

Look outside. Notice the season. Then notice yourself.

Which quality of autumn do you notice most—cool, dry, light, or mobile?

Have you noticed that every fall you feel more anxious, tired, scattered, or have trouble
sleeping?
It may not just be the changing weather—or even hormones alone.
In this episode of Thrive Over 40, we explore how Ayurveda views the transition into fall as Vata season and why this seasonal shift can have such a profound impact on women in midlife.
You'll learn why your digestion, nervous system, sleep, and mood often change this time of year, along with simple Ayurvedic practices you can begin today to feel calmer, more grounded, and deeply nourished throughout the season.
If you're ready to start understanding what your body is trying to tell you, this episode is for you.

It’s a new month. Kids are about to start a fresh year of school. What plans do you have for your wellness for Autumn?
This season is associated with the Vata dosha - dry, wind, cool, movement.
During this season start thinking about grounding the body - eating root veggies (in season), oiling the body (abhyanga), warming teas and drinks, warm nourishing foods, etc.
this week on the podcast I’ll be discussing this transition from Pitta heat of summer to Vata cool of autumn.
New episode arrives Thursday 9/3.
Pay attention to what your body whispers to you during this week, maybe it’s asking for a different kind of support. If you need assistance with this, I have spots available for the Gentle Reset Ayurvedic coaching and bodywork over 90 days. For more information visit www.sattvamw.com

One of my favorite ways to recharge or start my day- sit on my porch with my cup of coffee and sunbathe in the morning light, listening to the birds and crickets.

Have you ever looked around your life in your 40s or 50s and realized that so much has
changed?
Your children are growing up and becoming more independent.
A close friend moves away.
Family members live farther away.
Your parents are aging—or perhaps you've
experienced the heartbreaking loss of a parent.
And suddenly, you're asking yourself:
Who am I now?
Midlife isn't only about the physical changes of perimenopause and menopause. It's also
a season of profound emotional and relational change.
In this episode of the Thrive Over 40 Podcast, we're talking about the often-overlooked
grief that can come with midlife transitions—including empty nest emotions, changing
friendships, loneliness, aging parents, and losing people we love.
And we're exploring how Ayurveda can help you feel more grounded when so much
around you feels like it's shifting.

In this episode of Thrive Over 40, we look at these experiences through a different lens.
Instead of immediately asking,
“How do I get rid of this symptom?”, what if you became curious about what your body might be communicating?
From an Ayurvedic perspective, your body is constantly giving you information through your energy, digestion, sleep, mood, appetite, and other signals.
This doesn't mean every symptom is caused by hormones or that every symptom can be solved with lifestyle changes. Persistent or concerning symptoms deserve appropriate medical evaluation.
But learning to listen to your body can be an incredibly powerful first step toward understanding what you need in this season of life.
