Stories That Imprison Our Heart – Part 1

Much of our suffering begins not with reality itself, but with the stories we believe about ourselves, others, and the world. In this first talk of a two-part series, I explore how unconscious narratives—shaped by fear, conditioning, and past experience—can imprison the heart and keep us feeling separate, defensive, or unworthy. Through mindfulness and compassion, we can begin to recognize these stories, loosen their grip, and awaken to the freedom of our true nature.

In this talk, Tara explores:
– How fear-based stories shape our identity and relationships
– Why the “storytelling mind” is both essential and limiting
– Recognizing the unconscious beliefs that create suffering
– The healing power of mindful awareness and self-compassion
– How love helps us release old narratives and rediscover belonging

This teaching offers practical reflections for anyone longing to move beyond self-judgment, heal old conditioning, and live with greater freedom, authenticity, and connection.

May this exploration support you in seeing beyond the stories that keep the heart small, and in remembering the boundless awareness and love that are your deepest nature.

Natural breathing isn't random. It is governed by one of the most sophisticated control systems in the human body.

With every breath, your nervous system continuously integrates information about oxygen needs, carbon dioxide levels, energy demand, heart rate, and countless other physiological signals. Based on this, it subtly adjusts the depth, timing, and rhythm of each breath—without any conscious effort.

This is why natural breathing isn't perfectly regular. One breath may be deeper, the next shallower; there may even be brief pauses. What appears to be "instability" is actually remarkable responsiveness. Your respiratory system is constantly adapting to your body's changing needs.

The practice of observing the natural breath isn't about making it deeper, slower, or more controlled. It's about learning to stop interfering with a system that has evolved over millions of years to regulate itself with extraordinary precision.

Trust the intelligence of your natural breath.

Our course Breathe Well offers a comprehensive, structured approach to understanding and working with the breath — for your own practice and for those you teach or support.

Yoga helps with health and wellbeing and is recommended to NHS patients in the UK, but new research shows people who could benefit most find it hardest to access.
