Andddd that's why it's so important to make sure mom feels solid using the strategies we discuss & practice during our lactation visit on her own!

We've always known what to say. In fact, we've been saying it. Moms have too. 🎀

Now we're united and loud all at once, and I just hope the listening continues and we see positive change in postpartum care in so many ways πŸ’•

You deserve the world moms, and the small role I can play in supporting you with an open-heart & skills you can actually put into practice to make your feeding journey easier? Truly no bigger feeling of success and fulfillment for me 🀱

If I had a penny for every time a breastfeeding mama came to me stressed about their baby refusing a bottle RIGHT before their return to work, unfortunately I would have a lot of pennies 😬

My best advice? Introduce a bottle early & consistently if you know you'll need bottles to be in your routine. Just one bottle every other day after 3-4 weeks can be really helpful!

Yes, yes I know this may go against advice you've heard and you may be worried about "ni**le confusion"... but I'm not typically worried about a baby starting to prefer a bottle once breastfeeding is established πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I'm definitely more worried about waiting until 3 months to introduce a bottle at all for my back to work mamas.

Send to a new mama who you know will be returning to work; she could use this advice sooner rather than later!

Back for another ✨️Latch Lesson✨️
Where we dive in on not just WHAT feeding concerns caregivers are commonly seeing, but WHY they might be struggling. Save this and come back every Tuesday for the next one!

If we haven't met yet, hi! πŸ‘‹πŸ» I'm Carly, a dual certified infant OT and IBCLC helping families uncover the "why" behind their feeding struggles and conquering them for good.

Let's dive in:

Positioning and support truly help so much so that your baby can focus primarily on the task of feeding.

πŸ‘Ά If a baby has any weakness or is having any trouble with feeding in any way, they may not have the extra energy to also be holding their body in position to feed

πŸ‘©β€πŸΌ When moms hold up their baby to feed without a pillow, their arm often fatigues quicker than the length of the feed, and being uncomfortable during feeding can affect your supply as well as your mental health!

Did you find this surprising? Share with another mama to see if they are surprised too!

⁉️ Have a different feeding concern? Drop it in the comments and make sure to come back to see it covered here!

Did you know that breast shaping, while common advice, is actually highly associated with ni**le pain?

It has its time and place, but in majority of cases if your infant can latch themselves, let them! The right skills and the right approach are much more likely to get you the deep latch you're looking for.

Send to all the breastfeeding mamas you know to spread the word: we are no longer doing the "hamburger"/"taco" breast squishing to achieve a deep latch 🚫

Try it for yourself and see the difference!
