Today’s class was a special one!! We piloted the first version of our new Beat The Bias education plan. We incorporated CPR, AED, and gender disparities lessons into our class today.

Through our anonymous participant surveys, 100% percent of participants reported that CPR courses should use both female and male manikins. This is the mission of Beat The Bias. Our initiative works to implement policies to require training facilities to use both gender manikin. Apply for our fellowship and bring this policy to your region now 🚨🚨🚨

Applications are NOW OPEN for the Beat the Bias Policy Fellowship! 🚨🚨🚨

Beat the Bias is Beat The Beat’s new policy-advocacy campaign addressing gender-related barriers in bystander CPR.

We have received approval from the Scotch Plains Rescue Squad to draft an official policy requiring its CPR and BLS classes to address disparities affecting women and incorporate training involving female anatomy.

During this four-week fellowship, our team will work together to:

• Research and draft the official squad policy
• Develop materials to implement it in CPR classes
• Create a replication toolkit for other organizations
• Introduce the policy to additional rescue squads and CPR training providers

📅 August 2–29, 2026
⏰ Approximately 3 hours per week
📍 Primarily virtual
🎓 Open to high school and college students
📄 Volunteer hours and a Certificate of Completion provided

No previous CPR or policy experience is required. We are looking for passionate, reliable students interested in public health, medicine, policy, research, or community advocacy.
