Starting the school year is exciting.....but it can also be stressful. Getting back into early morning routines, sending your kids off to learn new things, finding your own routine while they're gone, it can be a lot. And that doesn't even include the homework and activities you know they're going to bring home!
Make sure you're taking care of yourself so you can take care of those little ones (and the big ones, too).
Here are some manageable ways to manage stress and make the transition easier:
- Prioritize the basics. Balanced meals, hydration, movement, and sleep.
- Create a predictable routine. Now that the first week is out of the way, look back and try to figure out what your routine needs to look like - then stick with it. Are you a homework first kind of house? Do the kids need a mental break and a snack as soon as you enter the door? Decide what works best and be consistent. Consistency is more important than perfection π©·
- Set aside a few minutes to sit in calm. No school or work talk, no tv, no stress. Just a few minutes to reset your mind and connect with your body. Check in with yourself and be mindful of how you're feeling both mentally and emotionally. Just 5 minutes is all you need. You can do it πͺπ»
- Give yourself some grace. Then extend that grace to the kids. When things get hectic, remember you're human and things take time. You're doing great!
And, as always, remember your wellness RN is here if you need an added boost of support.
