In this season of my life, I've been learning more about spiritual gifts in the Bible.

Lately, as I'm interacting with people and consuming media, I find myself wondering, "Does this person have this spiritual gift?" As I get a better sense of someone, I notice their behaviors lining up with patterns I've been studying.

One such gift is the gift of mercy. When I was watching the Michael biopic, I noticed Michael had so many of the characteristics of someone who carries the spiritual gift of mercy.

I'll be doing a series on the different spiritual gifts I notice in the media I consume so stay tuned!

And I’ll be holding space for the emotional weight of it all, because loving someone through aging while staying whole yourself is its own form of labor.
We’ll cover real strategies, honest guidance, and the permission slip many of us need to care for our people and ourselves.

Today was a day, but let me tell you about the goodness of God!

This is a picture of me and Shannon. Shannon took my headshots when I went to the American Association of Christian Counselors conference like five years ago. I always get compliments on my headshot and I was so grateful to her.

When I was working on my old website, the developer said I should dig up my old photos but I couldn't find them. So I reached out to Shannon to get them again. She responded so quickly, said she remembered me and everything, and sent me the photos. I told her, "If you were ever in New York, or if you're still doing photography, I will come to get a headshot." She thanked me shared that she took a break from photography, but she had been praying and asking God to show her if she should continue photography.

Fast forward to today. I get a random email this past weekend saying that she's in New York doing headshots, and of course I signed up. Do you know, Shannon was going to be in New York City but she came all the way to White Plains to my office and took wonderful pictures of me, and we just talked like two old friends who haven't seen each other in forever.

I just wanted this to be an encouragement to someone who may feel like nothing is going right. Or nothing is ever going to pan out the way I hoped. This is just an example of God's faithfulness and goodness, for Him to do this for me after I've had a fiasco with www.cheerfulheartmhcpllc.com and then for me to be able to bless someone else in the process. He is so good!

She just has a gift for bringing out the essence of a person, and I'm grateful to have met her and to have gotten to meet her again. She even introduced me to this cool coffee shop down the block from my office, so I'll definitely be going! I’m so grateful to her, and again I just hope this encourages you and reminds you that anything that's for you is not going to miss you. Shannon, thank you, and I can't wait to see the pictures! New headshots loading! 💛

Can I be honest? I'm going through it man! But aren't we all? Times are hard and scary. People are experiencing hardships all over the country and the world. Even so, I just want to encourage you if you feel pressed and afflicted. The Lord delivers. Be encouraged and remind yourself of who God is. And if you don't know God just know that He wants to know you too. Not via something heinous and disgusting like conversion therapy. He wants to know as you are. He is love. Because He loves I can love too.

Doing the right thing is hard, but do the right thing anyway.

On Sunday, I tried to find my clean body lotion because I actually ran out. I tried to find it on the ground and could not find it. In the end, I had to compromise and go to Target. I'm proud of myself that I did not buy anything but what I came for, but I don't shop at Target anymore either. I don't want to support anything that does not care about black and brown bodies, right, but I think it's just a reminder that sometimes doing the right thing is hard, but again, do it anyway.
