It is really not a difficult emotion or a positive or a negative emotion. It's the DNA of all emotions.... it's what it means to be human. It's what it means to show up and be all in when you can't control the outcome. There's just no courage without vulnerability. And when you're vulnerable, you're going to get hurt. But you cant really know love or courage...

How is your language becoming a self fulfilling prophecy for what you experience. And how are you protecting yourself in ways that are going to ensure that you never get what you really want, which is vulnerability? "

Let's talk about Stress vs Overwhelmed.

Are you stressed or overwhelmed? Can you tell the difference? They are really different yet often we interchange them. Language is important & properly labeling your emotions is beneficial for 3 reasons.

1. So people can help us
2. So we know what we need
3. So we don't have one emotion shifting to become another because we misnamed it.

This is so incredibly important with these emotions because language doesn't just communicate what we're feeling, it shapes it.

Here are the definitions:

STRESSED: when we evaluate environmental demand as beyond our ability to cope successfully.This includes elements of unpredictability, uncontrollability and feeling overloaded.

OVERWHELMED: an extreme level of stress, an emotional and or cognitive intensity, to the point of feeling unable to function.

In Atlas of the Heart, Brené Brown reminds us that naming an emotion is the first step to moving through it. Whether you are feeling 'in the weeds' or just 'at a loss,' we are here to help you find your way back to yourself.
