Wichita Family Birth Support Doulas

Wichita Family Birth Support Doulas Your source for personalized and compassionate doula services & childbirth education. www.wichitafa Message me for more info!

As a doula in Wichita, Kansas, Bethany Fenlason and her team provides continuous physical & emotional support during labor for the mom and birth partner, non-medical pain management(different labor positions, massage, relaxation techniques, etc). Postpartum services are designed to "mother the mother" and provide her with whatever help she needs to rest and take care of herself and the baby. This

can include newborn care, breastfeeding support, as well as light housekeeping and cooking or help with siblings. I want to empower women with information & knowledge to make informed decisions about their pregnancy and birth. On my own journey, I discovered that birth is a natural process that we can trust given the tools and resources to make informed decisions. Doula support has been proven to shorten labor time, reduce interventions and c-section rates and enhance bonding experiences. More info can be found on my website at www.wichitafamilybirth.com

Sometimes you just need someone to come and hold the baby!! Our postpartum doula support helps with that!

“Thanks again for coming this morning! It was really nice to do things with the older kids without having to stop all the time to feed the baby or get her to sleep.”

This was one of those surprising twists you get from first time moms occasionally! Thankfully Sam walked in at just the right time! Thank you, Lord!
Such a privilege to support them!

Next up is another first-time mom!

This couple drove over 2 hours to receive care with Miracle Moments Midwifery—and I’m so glad they did. They were an absolute blast to work with and had quite the birth story!

A little background before we jump in…

This was one of those rare days where I had two clients in labor at the same time. It doesn’t happen often—but when it does, things can get interesting! This client was planning a birth center birth, and my other client was planning a home birth.

My home birth client was ready for admission, and I knew this mom was getting close too—although I hadn’t gotten the call yet. I checked in with my home birth client, and she was more than willing to meet at the birth center instead (we did have a backup midwife ready if needed).

So, I walked into the birth center with a plan in place.

What I didn’t expect… was how fast things were about to move.

This client had arrived just about 5 minutes before me, planning to labor a bit with her doula—not for admission yet. I passed dad in the hallway, and he casually mentioned he thought baby might be coming soon. I thought, “Great! Perfect timing.”

I headed back to connect with Bethany (doula)… and suddenly heard mom calmly say that baby’s head was right there, while Bethany was urgently trying to call me 😅

Perfect timing, indeed.

I walked into the room—and within about 5 minutes, baby was in mom’s arms.

So yes… baby was, in fact, right there 🤣🙌

This mom absolutely rocked her birth, and I’m already looking forward to the next time I get to walk alongside this family again.

Welcome to the world, Benton—you are the perfect addition to such a sweet couple 🤍

Did you drink raspberry leaf tea? Do you think it helped?

Raspberry leaf tea - or capsules - is one of those things that comes up again and again in pregnancy conversations.

Some women choose to drink it, and swear by it. Others think it doesn't work at all.

But what does the evidence say?

And what can we learn from looking at why there isn't always good evidence on topics like this one?

Find out in my blog post, What's the evidence for raspberry leaf tea?

Something to think about! Doula support is another great addition to help you advocate for yourself in labor.

Do you remember the 2nd night? We call it cluster feeding night!

What is 2nd Night Syndrome? 2nd-night syndrome is a common feature of newborn behavior. It typically occurs on the 2nd night after birth, when the baby’s behavior shifts from sleepiness to greater wakefulness, often asking to nurse frequently. Our colleague, Jan Barger, has discussed this. In her description of this she says, “All of a sudden, your little one discovers that he’s no longer back in the warmth and comfort – though a bit crowded – womb where he has spent the last 9 months – and it is SCARY out here!” No wonder babies are upset!” Correct! Infants are upset, but our takeaway message to families is that this is normal and your baby is fine. And, happily, there are things you can do that may help.
