Freedom. Safety. Peace of Mind.

One of the biggest fears for families caring for a loved one with dementia or cognitive decline is the possibility of them becoming lost or confused.

Technology can help—and it may be more affordable than you think.

Tracking devices can:
✅ Allow seniors to maintain their freedom and independence.
✅ Help caregivers quickly locate a loved one if they become confused or wander.
✅ Provide an added sense of security for both seniors and their families.
✅ Fit a variety of budgets, with many devices starting around $30–$100 and optional monitoring plans often ranging from $10–$40 per month.

The goal isn't to take away independence—it's to preserve it safely.

At Start Smart Plus, we help families navigate the many tools and technologies available so they can make informed decisions and create a care plan that supports aging at home with dignity.

You don't have to spend thousands of dollars to improve safety. Sometimes, one affordable device can make all the difference.

If you're wondering whether a tracking device is right for your loved one, let's have a conversation. Together, we can build a plan that promotes both independence and peace of mind.

It was only my second week caring for my loved one when I discovered that a romance scam was targeting them.

Fury is the nicest word I can use to describe how I felt.🤬

But I want to keep ringing the bell: Yes, this can happen to your family! 🔔

We want to believe everything is fine with our parents and loved ones. Sometimes, we have to look deeper, double-check what is happening, and make sure protections are in place.

Seniors are being targeted by scammers who are willing to spend weeks or months building trust, creating emotional relationships, and telling any lie necessary to gain access to their hard-earned assets.

Please have the difficult conversations early. Review finances, watch for unusual behavior, protect personal information, and create a plan before a crisis occurs.

Let’s have our own conversation about how to protect your loved one and their hard-earned assets.

Stay Inspired,
Shonda

For years, you've heard me encourage caregivers to give themselves grace, remember they are not alone, and seek out the products, services, and resources that can make the caregiving journey a little easier.

Today, those words hit even closer to home.
I'm on day 3 and my loved one turned out with anger. To the point she was shaking and screaming.

No matter how much experience we have, none of us are immune to the emotions, uncertainty, and anger that come with caring for someone we love.

So today, I want to remind every caregiver of the same message I share every day:

Give yourself grace. Ask for help. Accept help. You are not alone.

Together, we'll continue to navigate this journey—one step, one conversation, and one act of kindness at a time and maybe one good cocktail or an extra scoop of ice cream can calm the nerves.

53 million Americans are family caregivers. Many are also raising children, making them part of the Sandwich Generation.

Behind the scenes, these employees are balancing conference calls with doctor appointments, deadlines with caregiving responsibilities, and work with worry.

Nearly 7 in 10 working caregivers have adjusted their work schedules or reduced their hours to care for a loved one. That impacts productivity, absenteeism, retention, and ultimately your organization's bottom line.

Your employees don't just need benefits. They need guidance, resources, and support.

That's why Start Smart Plus created an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) focused on senior care navigation—helping employees care for aging loved ones while remaining engaged and productive at work.

Let's start the conversation about supporting your workforce before caregiving becomes a workplace crisis.
