Buffalo Ophthalmology is proud to share that Dr. Deepan Selvadurai performed the first implantation in Western New York—and was among the first surgeons nationally—to use the newly released blue-light-filtering version of Alcon’s Clareon® TruPlus intraocular lens.

Used during cataract surgery, TruPlus is an enhanced monofocal lens designed to provide clear distance vision while offering slightly more range of focus for everyday activities at arm’s length, such as viewing a computer screen or car dashboard. Patients should still expect to need reading glasses for close work.

The new blue-light-filtering option further expands the choices available to cataract patients, allowing treatment to be more closely matched to each person’s eyes, lifestyle and visual priorities.

Thank you to Chris Maier and the Alcon team, along with our outstanding operating-room staff, for helping make the first case go so smoothly.

Buffalo Ophthalmology remains committed to thoughtfully bringing advances in cataract and glaucoma care to patients throughout Western New York.

Glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight” because it can develop without noticeable symptoms in its early stages. Over time, it can lead to permanent vision loss if left untreated. Regular eye exams are essential for detecting glaucoma early and managing it effectively.
