My second-hand copy of Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon arrived today, and I couldn’t be more excited to dive in.

This book has become a modern classic in the world of traditional nutrition. Drawing inspiration from the research of Dr. Weston A. Price, it explores the wisdom of ancestral diets and the importance of nutrient-dense, whole foods. Inside are hundreds of recipes alongside practical education on soaking, sprouting, fermenting, culturing, making bone broth, preparing organ meats, using healthy traditional fats, and getting the most nutrition from the foods we eat.

What I love most is that it’s more than a cookbook. It challenges many modern nutrition assumptions and encourages a return to time-tested food traditions that supported healthy generations long before processed foods became the norm.

Today I’m giving kefir a try! Unlike yogurt, kefir is a fermented dairy made with kefir grains—a culture of beneficial bacteria and yeast. Stay tuned for a video on how to make it. It’s known for supporting digestion and keeping things moving, and it’s surprisingly delicious blended into a smoothie.

Fermented rice water rinse:

Use 1-2 times per week. After shampooing, saturate your hair with fermented rice water. Let it sit for 10 minutes, then rinse and follow with conditioner.

Store any leftover rice water in a sealed container in the refrigerator and use within one week.

Have you had your bone broth today?

Bone broth is an easy way to incorporate gut-supporting nutrients into your diet. The gelatin, collagen, and minerals help provide the building blocks your body needs to support a healthy gut lining.

There are many simple ways to use it:
• Add it to soups, stews, meat dishes, and sauces
• Use it as the liquid when cooking rice or quinoa
• Add it to vegetables or savory recipes for extra nutrition and flavor

Shelf-stable tetra packs make it convenient—just open, pour, and add it to whatever you’re already making.

Small, nourishing habits can make a big difference.

Collaborate with me! Comment “JOURNAL” below, and I’ll send you a copy of the charts I plan to include in the Food + Mood Journal I’m creating.

All I ask in return is that you use the charts for one week and share your honest feedback. What worked well? What could be organized better? Was anything unnecessary, or is there something you’d like to see added?

Your input will help me refine the journal before it’s finished, and you may even discover some interesting patterns between your food, mood, energy, sleep, and daily habits along the way!
