There's more than one kind of inheritance. Some of what our parents leave us doesn't come in a will. It doesn't cost anything. And it can't be put in a box.

The way she always laughed at her own jokes. The way he never left the house without kissing your mom goodbye. The recipe she scribbled from memory. The saying you catch yourself using at the dinner table without meaning to.

These are the inheritances that money can't buy. And they're the ones that outlast everything.

What did you inherit that no one else would understand?

Movies and TV have been telling us for decades what a funeral is supposed to look like. Rainy afternoons. Black umbrellas. Silent grief.

Real funerals rarely look like this.

Here are five things TV gets wrong:

1. It's not always raining. Most services happen in the sunshine, on beautiful afternoons, in gardens and parks and living rooms.

2. Everyone doesn't wear black. Some families now ask guests to wear color, or the loved one's favorite hue, or a sports team's jersey.

3. It's not always silent. Some services are full of stories, laughter, music, and the sound of people who loved someone remembering them out loud.

4. Most families don't have a movie-worthy confrontation. Most families are just trying to hold each other up.

5. It doesn't end when the service does. The hardest part often begins after everyone goes home. Grief and remembrance continue long after the last guest leaves.

This will be a Celebration of Life, we will have fun, listen to her music, share what Dolly meant to us, and be together as a community.

Dolly was an icon and humanitarian. In honor of her dedication to Imagination Library we will be taking a collection of children's books to donate to a local organization.

When most people picture a funeral director, they picture someone standing at the front of a service. But that moment is a small fraction of what we actually do.

Behind every service is a person quietly making sure everything holds together for a family in one of the hardest weeks of their lives.

1. Walking families through impossible decisions. When someone is grieving, even simple choices feel enormous. We help sort through them with clarity and patience.

2. Coordinating every detail. Clergy, cemeteries, florists, obituaries, transportation, permits. There are dozens of moving parts. We handle them so families can focus on grieving.

3. Filing paperwork families never see. Death certificates, insurance claims, veteran benefits, Social Security. Invisible work that matters.

4. Handling the logistics. Timing. Setup. Music. The chairs being arranged. The candles being lit before anyone arrives.

5. Listening. A lot. Sometimes what a family needs most is not a plan. It's someone to sit with them and let them talk about the person they lost.

This work is quiet and mostly unseen. But it matters. And we're grateful to be trusted with it.

Real love has always lived in the small stuff. In the porch light left on. In the wave from the driveway until the car disappears. In the pot of coffee already made when someone stumbles into the kitchen.

These are the rituals we grew up watching without ever calling them anything special. They were just how our people loved us.

Somewhere along the way, we started calling them old-fashioned. Then we stopped doing them.

Bring one back this week. It doesn't have to be big. That's the whole point.

There's actually a name for it. It's called the Production Effect. Speaking out loud activates deeper memory encoding in the brain than silent thought.

That's why the toast we gave sticks with us more than the one we planned. Why our loved ones' voices echo through our memory like nothing else can. Why saying their name out loud, even years later, brings them so close.

Grief has quiet rituals. Speaking your loved one's name is one of the most powerful. Say it in the car. At their grave. While you cook their favorite meal.

Say it out loud. The science and the heart both agree.
