At AMR Barrow County EMS, our crews are equipped with the OneScope Video Intubation Device, an advanced tool that helps us secure a patient's airway when every second counts. ⏱️

Instead of relying solely on a direct line of sight, the OneScope provides a live video view of the airway on a screen, allowing paramedics to place a breathing tube with greater precision during critical emergencies. 🎥🫁

This technology can be especially helpful for patients experiencing:

This week's EMT Tuesday spotlight shines on Rick, one of our dedicated EMS professionals who brings experience, passion, and leadership to every shift! 👏

👨‍⚕️ Meet Rick!

✅ 10 years of field experience as an Advanced EMT (AEMT)
✅ EMS Instructor
✅ American Heart Association BLS CPR Instructor ❤️
✅ Former Captain, Field Training Officer (FTO), and Preceptor

When asked what he loves most about EMS, his answer was simple:

🚑 "The different calls that we are running every shift. You never know what the day will bring, which makes EMS so dynamic."

As an instructor and preceptor, one of his favorite moments is seeing the 💡 "light bulb" come on when a student realizes that what they learned in the classroom is now helping them care for a real patient.

Our EMTs not only respond to emergencies, but they also help shape the next generation of EMS professionals through education, mentorship, and leadership. 📚👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

Today marks two years since our community experienced an unimaginable tragedy at Apalachee High School.

We pause to remember and honor the lives of Mason Schermerhorn, Christian Angulo, Coach Richard Aspinwall, and Christina Irimie. Their memories continue to live on in the hearts of their loved ones and throughout the community they helped shape.

We recognize the lasting impact this day has had on families, friends, students, educators, first responders, and all those touched by this tragedy. We continue to hold each of you in our thoughts as we remember together.

Over the past two years, our community has demonstrated extraordinary strength, compassion, and resilience. In the face of heartbreak, you have supported one another, honored those we lost, and continued moving forward together.

Many members of the AMR Barrow team who answered the call that day still serve this community today. While some faces and uniforms may have changed, our commitment to this community remains steadfast. We are honored to stand beside you, support you, and serve you.

Today, we remember. Today, we honor. Today, we stand together.

👏 Today's EMT Tuesday Feature: Josiah, an Advanced EMT and State Licensed EMS Instructor with 13 years of field experience!
Throughout his EMS career, he has served as a Captain, Field Training Officer, and mentor to countless providers before bringing his knowledge and leadership to AMR Barrow County EMS.

🚨 What does he love most about EMS?
"Being able to show up to someone's emergency, no matter what that may be, and be the answer they need. To bring some calm into their chaos."
He also enjoys helping the next generation of EMS providers succeed.
"I remember when I was green as grass, and I try to be the kind of positive, reassuring person that I was fortunate enough to have in my corner back then."

This week's spotlight shines on Paramedic John! 🌟

John brings 13 years of prehospital EMS experience to the job and has proudly served the citizens of Barrow County for the past 5 years. ❤️🏥

When he's not responding to emergencies, John is passionate about helping shape the next generation of EMS professionals. 📚🚑

He holds a current EMS Instructor License, multiple American Heart Association Instructor certifications, and helps teach in the EMS Professional Programs at Gwinnett Technical College.

Meet One of the Most Important Tools on Our Ambulance- (other than our amazing EMTs and Paramedics) The LIFEPAK 15! ❤️

Have you ever wondered how paramedics can quickly determine what's happening with a patient's heart before they even arrive at the hospital? 🤔

One of the most powerful tools we carry is the LIFEPAK 15 cardiac monitor/defibrillator! 🚑💙 This advanced piece of equipment helps our crews assess, monitor, and treat critically ill patients right at the scene and during transport.

🔍 What can the LIFEPAK 15 do?

❤️ Monitor the Heart

Displays the patient's heart rhythm in real-time
Detects dangerous arrhythmias
Helps identify life-threatening cardiac emergencies

📈 Perform 12-Lead ECGs

Allows paramedics to look at the heart from multiple angles
Can identify signs of a heart attack (STEMI)
Helps hospitals prepare for immediate treatment before the patient arrives

⚡ Deliver Life-Saving Shocks

Used to treat certain deadly cardiac rhythms during cardiac arrest
Defibrillation can help restore a normal heart rhythm when seconds matter

💓 External Cardiac Pacing

Can temporarily help a dangerously slow heart beat faster

🚑🩸 BIG NEWS: Whole Blood is Now Rolling with Your AMR Barrow EMS Team! 🩸🚑

💥 When seconds matter, the care we provide starts long before a patient reaches the hospital.

We are proud to announce that our Prehospital Whole Blood Program is officially LIVE, and has been since August 3rd! 🎉This means our paramedics can now administer low-titer O positive whole blood directly in the field to patients experiencing life-threatening hemorrhage from traumatic injuries or certain medical emergencies. We also have the ability to rapidly warm the blood that we administer with the QinFlow Warrior Lite- a warmer that is specially made for the transport environment.

❤️‍🩹 What is Whole Blood? Whole blood contains the key components the body needs after severe blood loss:
✅ Red blood cells to carry oxygen
✅ Plasma to support clotting
✅ Platelets to help stop bleeding

Instead of waiting until arrival at the hospital, we can begin replacing what the body is losing while en route to definitive care. 🏥🩸

🚨 Why Does This Matter? Severe bleeding is one of the leading preventable causes of death following traumatic injury or significant hemorrhage. Modern trauma care focuses on stopping bleeding quickly and restoring circulation as early as possible. Research and military experience have helped drive the return of whole blood as an important tool in hemorrhage resuscitation. Studies have reported that prehospital whole blood administration is feasible, safe, and may improve outcomes for patients suffering from life-threatening hemorrhages.

⏱️ Earlier Blood = Earlier Resuscitation. By carrying blood directly to the patient, we can:
🩸 Begin treatment sooner
🩸 Support oxygen delivery to vital organs
🩸 Help address shock caused by severe blood loss
🩸 Provide advanced, evidence-informed care before hospital arrival

🎯 Who Might Benefit? Our program is designed for patients with severe traumatic bleeding and select medical hemorrhage emergencies, such as significant gastrointestinal bleeding, postpartum hemorrhage, and other life-threatening bleeding conditions when appropriate.

🤝 This program represents countless hours of training, planning, collaboration, and commitment from our EMS professionals, hospital partners, blood suppliers, and medical leadership.
We are excited to bring this next level of care to our community because when every minute counts, bringing blood directly to the patient can make a difference. ❤️
