In the sports performance world, every area you can maximize can give you a step ahead of your competition. But not every area is important for each individual sport. Some need speed over agility, others need muscular endurance over cardiovascular endurance, and so on and so forth. The importance of figuring out the differences of these aspects is crucial for heightening your performance; here's a few of these areas:
- Speed v. agility
- Strength v. power
- Cardio v. muscular endurance
- Dieting v. nutrition
- Energy v. composure

Working out may seem like a time consuming and taxing habit, but it can actually be medicine for your body! Here at the Center for Movement and Wellbeing, we say, "Movement is healing" which essentially means that we move to heal our bodies. The areas where this impacts isn't centralized to just muscles but also your cognitive and mental health. Here's just a few of the areas this covers!
- mental health
- hormone production
- heart health
- arthritis
- bone density
- cognitive health
- tissue/muscle healing

A great workout can do wonders for how you feel the rest of the day: energized, pumped up, mentally focused, etc.. But then you wake up the next day and you're so sore you can barely get out of bed. Why is that?
While some people errantly claim it's lactic acid, the real culprit is delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). It's the micro tears in your muscles from yesterday's workout trying to heal! This is why recovery work is so important as DOMS is an indicator that your muscles need a rest to heal and repair. This is NOT a "no pain, no gain moment." So what should you do? Glad you asked!
1. Refuel with high protein meals to rebuild your muscles.
2. Drink water to rehydrate and remove waste/toxins from your muscles.
3. SLEEP! This is extremely overlooked, but one of the most important aspects of recovery!
4. Stretch, foam roll, do yoga, go for a walk, or do something to keep your muscles moving so they don't get overly tight.

Most people think that the only way to increase their VO2max or general cardio endurance is to run and then run some more and then keep running. However, despite what cross country athletes might say, most people don't have the desire to go on 5 mile runs every other day, so what are some equally effective alternatives?
Here's some options we recommend!
- Long walks
- Sprints
- Fan Bike Intervals
- HIIT Workouts
- Stair Master
- Cycling (Indoor or outdoor)
- Swimming
- Rowing Machine
