Success Saturday: Heart, Healing, and Hope! 🌟

Happy Nurses Week! Today, I want to take a moment to send a massive thank you to all the incredible NICU nurses out there. Having walked in those shoes, I know firsthand the unmatched dedication, the full moon night shifts, and the deep love and compassion it takes to care for our most vulnerable little ones.

That profound love for the bedside is actually why I started Tiny Cuties Infant Primary Care. My heart has always belonged to direct patient care—giving me the chance to roll up my sleeves as a practitioner and spend that extra, meaningful time supporting babies and their families when they need it most. 💙

💛 Warrior Wednesday! Happy Neonatal Nurses Week! 💛

This one is especially emotional for me to post. 🩷

Today, I’m celebrating the incredible neonatal nurses who have been such an important part of my journey—both personally and professionally.

From my nurses at UnityPoint Health - Meriter, who supported me at the beginning of my NICU journey and cared for me through some of the most difficult family emergencies, to my Florida NICU at AdventHealth, Holmes Regional Medical Center, Winnie Palmer NICU, and Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital NICU—you have each helped shaped the path to become the practitioner I am today.

And to the nurses at Emplify Health by Gundersen NICU, and all of the other NICUs I’ve had the privilege of learning and working alongside throughout my journey—thank you. ❤️

I can only begin to put into words how grateful I am for each and every one of you.

You’ve taught me about strength, compassion, advocacy, teamwork, resilience, and what it truly means to care for the tiniest patients and the families who love them.

There have been long shifts, difficult moments, tiny victories, heartbreaking days, and beautiful memories. But through it all, NICU nurses show up with one common goal:

To care for these little warriors and support their families through some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. 💛

I would not be the practitioner I am today without the nurses who have walked beside me, taught me, challenged me, supported me, and inspired me along the way.

And now, through Tiny Cuties Infant Primary Care, I carry those lessons with me every day as I care for babies and their families outside of the NICU.

To every neonatal nurse who has crossed my path:

One thing about me…..I love to yap! 😆

This weeks tip is one of my favorites.

Language development doesn't start with their first official word—it starts from day one through everyday moments, sweet babbles, and back-and-forth interactions!

Bonus Tip: Ask your infant a question and pause as if you’re waiting for an answer. Most of the time you’ll get a sweet response with smiles or giggles. The pause you give during that time is the foundation for interaction and conversation. And most importantly, fun bonding time between the two of you. 🍊

Did your parents ever say you were a "colicky" baby? I know mine reminded me over and over! And honestly, when my middle daughter was born, we thought she had the exact same thing and assumed "they just grow out of it."

Fortunately, thanks to ongoing medical research, we now know that "colic"—or excessive crying and fussiness—is often closely linked to an early gut microbiome imbalance. I’ve been diving into Dr Steven Gundry's research on pregnancy, childbirth, and the infant microbiome. The science is fascinating!

Here are a few gentle, practical ways to support your baby’s gut health:

Tailored Feeding: Breastmilk provides ideal microflora, but if you use formula, choosing one optimized for gut health makes a world of difference. (I had to supplement all 3 of my babies because I couldn't produce enough breastmilk no matter what I did—so zero judgment here!)

Pacing & Posture: Keep your baby upright for at least 15 minutes after feeding and use anti-colic bottles designed to reduce air intake (Dr. Brown’s are a personal favorite).

Targeted Support: Targeted prebiotics and probiotics can be incredibly beneficial, but they should always be started under the guidance of your healthcare provider.

Patience & Soothing: Gut bacteria takes time to balance out—often at least a month after making changes. In the meantime, skin-to-skin contact, babywearing, and plenty of snuggles help regulate your baby's nervous system while their digestive system catches up.

Most importantly: remember that a baby missing optimal gut bacteria at birth is nobody's fault!
