REquipment Inc

REquipment Inc REquipment provides free gently used durable medical equipment & assistive technology throughout MA.

REquipment gives gently used durable medical equipment a second life helping someone else in need. A “reuse” program, REquipment helps people obtain gently-used and refurbished durable medical equipment (DME) at no cost thanks to state and private funding. The project is funded by the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission with support from the Department of Developmental Services and the Pappas

Rehabilitation Hospital for Children. To donate or receive DME, search our listings of available items at www.dmereuse.org

Why REquipment?

Because sometimes you need medical equipment for a short time, and insurance won't cover it. And when you're finished with it, throwing it away just doesn't make sense.

Take the iWalk Crutch, for example. For many people recovering from a below-the-knee surgery, it's a game-changer. It provides hands-free mobility and greater independence during recovery—but it's typically not covered by insurance.

If you have an upcoming below-the-knee operation, check out our online inventory. Last we checked, we have an iWalk available. Link is in the comments.

✅ Free to pick up in Worcester
✅ Statewide delivery for just $20
✅ Can be bundled with larger equipment requests at no extra charge

When you've recovered, we ask that you donate it back to the program so someone else can benefit from it too.

That's the power of reuse. That's why REquipment.

Happy "Why REquipment Wednesday"

Yesterday, a woman with a spinal cord injury and arthritis requested a 4-wheel rollator from the REquipment online inventory.

Her reason?

"Can't afford to buy," she wrote to us.

Simply put, those four words are why we're here. This is why the REquipment program is necessary.

If you agree and live in MA, won't you please take two minutes to visit this link: tinyurl.com/REQadvocacy ?

There, enter your address, and the tool will identify and email your state legislators, asking them to help prevent a devastating $500K cut to the program. (You can edit the email first.)

Thank you for taking action. And thank you for all you do to make this program possible for vulnerable residents with disabilities across Massachusetts.

Help prevent a deep $500K cut to durable medical and assistive technology reuse in Massachusetts.

This critical budget decision now rests with the Joint Conference Committee of the state legislature, and taking action is easy.

Visit tinyurl.com/REQadvocacy, enter your address, and customize (or leave alone) an auto-generated email that automatically sends to each of your state legislators, as well as the six members of the Conference Committee.

It's a swift way to make a big difference.

Please don't delay if your legislator is on the Joint Conference Committee. Committee members are Sens. Michael J. Rodrigues, Patrick M. O'Connor, and Joanne M. Comerford; and Reps. Aaron Michlewitz, Kip Diggs, and Todd M. Smola.

Your voice matters. YOU matter. Your well-being. Your mobility. Your child. Your parent. Your community and your reuse program.

This is how we keep this terrific program. This is what it takes.

Happy Testimonial Tuesday.

In March, a man with cerebral palsy received a free Lumex stand aid with locking casters less than a week after his PT requested the device from the REquipment website.

REquipment delivered the heavy stander to Ipswich for a delivery fee of $20.

"Thank you for this invaluable service," his PT wrote the program.

REquipment devices are delivered statewide or are free to pick up.

🤩 30th Anniversary Gala Award Announcement and Tickets 🤩

In honor of our 30th anniversary in 2026, we are hosting the DPC 30th Anniversary Gala on November 19th at Artists for Humanity in Boston. This is a milestone celebration, so the event will look a little different from our typical annual events.

The biggest change for this year is that, instead of presenting three awards to outstanding leaders in the disability community, we have decided to present just one award in 2026 - the Visionary Changemaker Award.

And we are thrilled to announce that the recipient of the 2026 Visionary Changemaker Award is...Charlie Carr!

Charlie is a legend in the disability advocacy space. Long before DPC existed, his leadership was already helping shape the disability rights movement in Massachusetts and across the country. As one of DPC’s founders, he brought that vision to an organization that has had a meaningful impact on the lives of so many people. His influence extends far beyond DPC itself, and his work over the years has built the foundation of the disability rights movement we see today. In his current role as DPC's Legislative Liaison, Charlie's leadership and example continue to guide our community-based advocacy.

There is truly no one more deserving of this award - congratulations, Charlie! 👏

We hope you'll join us in November to celebrate Charlie and 30 years of the DPC. To learn more about the event and secure your ticket today, please visit dpcma.org/dpc-30-gala

Stay tuned for more exciting Gala updates! 👀

Please reach out to [email protected] with any questions about the 30th Anniversary Gala.

Happy Why REquipment Wednesday

In March, REquipment provided a knee scooter to a veteran in Northampton. He was anticipating two ankle surgeries, and insurance wouldn't cover the equipment that could make his life so much easier.

"It has made a world of difference getting around," David wrote to us. "I use it at home and also in the community. It helps me get out of the house. So thankful for it!"

REquipment provides gently used, refurbished durable medical equipment and assistive technology at no charge. No insurance or prescription necessary. If you live in MA, you're eligible.

Thank you to the Massachusetts Senate for passing Amendment 548. Next stop is the Conference Committee!

What does this mean for funding the REquipment Durable Medical Equipment and Assistive Technology Reuse Program?

As many of you are aware, the final House budget proposal for FY27 fails to include the earmark needed to level fund REquipment. Without that $500K, REquipment faces an unsustainable 35.7% cut to the program's operating budget.

Thankfully, the Senate's budget restores the program's earmark and funding.

But we're not out of the woods yet.

The differences between the House and Senate budgets will now be negotiated in the Joint House and Senate Conference Committee. REquipment will need one final push of advocacy to ensure people with disabilities across Massachusetts can continue accessing essential durable medical equipment and assistive technology in FY27.

Your advocacy matters. Your advocacy is making all the difference.
