This past week has been a whirlwind of client appointments, catching up on business and home responsibilities, and celebrating Father’s Day with my husband, whom I love dearly. But I wanted to take a moment to reflect on my birthday from just over a week ago.

If there’s one thing I say often, it’s how incredibly blessed I am. The breath in my lungs and the heartbeat in my chest are gifts I never want to take for granted—but they’re only the beginning.

A friend once shared a perspective I’ve never forgotten: not YOLO (You Only Live Once), but YODO—You Only Die Once. While it sounds a little morbid, the message is powerful. Every single day we’re given is another opportunity to live, grow, make a difference, take a chance, or move one step closer to our goals.

As I celebrated another birthday, I found myself reflecting on everything my 30s have brought me. It hasn’t always been easy—there have been long nights, hard days, unanswered questions, prayers, tears, frustration, hope, and faith. But there have also been incredible blessings: marrying the love of my life, becoming a parent, raising our first homebred who made it to the track, building a business that has grown beyond anything I imagined, and now preparing to return to school later this year to earn my degree.

So here’s to another year—to living fully, learning continuously, growing intentionally, and embracing whatever comes next. I can’t wait to see where this next chapter leads.

Thank you to my family, friends, followers, and even the strangers at Emerald Downs who took the time to wish me a happy birthday. Your kindness meant more than you know. And of course, a special thank you to Dan for bugling my birthday tune! ❤️

I get asked pretty often how many horses I actually own, mostly because the same three tend to dominate my posts. So when people find out I have *five*, there’s usually a brief moment where they look at me like either I can’t count or “girl math” has officially spiraled out of control.

The truth is, I took the Pringles approach to horse ownership: once you start, it’s really hard to stop at low odd numbers, cause they need friends....

I talk a lot about my “working” horses, but I rarely shine the spotlight on my pasture puffs. While they may not have a technical job description, they absolutely still serve a purpose around here.

First up is our good ol’ girl — my 22-year-old retired OTTB. She’s been with us for 12 years and has fully embraced her role as resident matriarch, backup milk machine (thanks to her previous foaling experience), and professional nanny mare. She helps teach the youngsters manners, boundaries, and basic horse society rules… especially when Tachi decides “gentle parenting” is the preferred management style. And honestly? We think she looks pretty dang amazing for 22.

Then there’s our *true* pasture puff. This mare can gain fluff by simply smelling grain from across the field. Like her dam, she’s incredibly alert to anything suspicious — predators, weird noises, or a single blade of grass being slightly out of place. We’ve had her for 12 years, and she’s one of the gentlest mares I’ve ever known… unless you come at her with a needle. Then she transforms into a thousand-pound kite with absolutely no concern for collateral damage when she ricochets off a fence.

And of course, there’s Sassy and King — my pride and joys. I will never pass up an opportunity to post pictures of them, and I won’t apologize for it either.

Sassy will be staying with us indefinitely while we decide what the best future looks like for her.

King, meanwhile, will head to a trainer in late summer/early fall for retraining to help maximize his marketability for the 2027 show season and, eventually, his future owner.

And last but definitely not least: Tachi. We technically still own her since she’s currently on lease to the sporthorse farm she’s residing at. Pregnancy check is May 28th, so fingers crossed for good news!

P.S. No pic of Tachi cause, well, we all know and love her... And I don't have a recent one. 🤣

I did some trimming on Sassy's feet yesterday (cause right now we are growing so fast we need 3-4 week trims) and got these updated pics.
My husband is 6' for reference. And she just turned a year a little over a week ago
Re-string tested now that she is a year and we are at 17.3h.
I absolutely love her.
😍😍

Today is a day for a double celebration.

Many of you know how much I’ve always loved Barbaro. He was an incredible horse—full of drive, fire, and heart. I followed his career closely and was captivated by his determination and presence. The day he won the Kentucky Derby, I was less than an hour away at a national alpaca show. Horses had always been my passion, and Barbaro helped keep that dream alive. Though his story ended tragically, his impact never faded. He was born 23 years ago today.

Fast forward to 2024, when we bred Tachi. It was a hectic season, but we managed to get her bred on the morning of Kentucky Derby Day. That afternoon, after bringing her home, we watched the race—where Mystik Dan, a grandson of Colonel John, won at 18-1 odds. Since Tachi is a Colonel John daughter, that made it even more exciting for us.

Then, in the early hours of April 29, 2025, Sassy was born—a beautiful, long-legged, strong filly. Conceived on Derby Day and born on Barbaro’s birthday (and a filly, no less!), it all came together into a story I’ll always love.

Now a year old, Sassy has grown into a gorgeous, sweet, and level-headed filly. Already standing at 15 hands, she’s going to be a big, scopey mare, and I can’t wait to see how she continues to develop.

Happy birthday, Barbaro—and happy 1st birthday to our Sassy! ❤️

Not our best photo but she is too busy to be bothered. 🤣

Well, it's official. I think I have a thing for dark bays. 🫣😂 How lucky am I that I have a broodmare that throws them?? ...

While we don't carry any Frosted blood on our farm, I have always had an appreciation for this stallion. So sad he is gone so soon. Absolutely incredible horse! Our hearts are with his connections. 💔
