Coaching provides structure, feedback and accountability for all athletes. Working with BWC is not just for the elite racer - we welcome athletes of all levels and ability! Through the structure provided through Trainingpeaks.com, clients receive a custom tailored training plan built specifically to meet their needs in regards to goals, commitments, work, family and school. The training will be at

tainable and sustainable and most important it will be very rewarding for both you and your coach! Joy holds a BS in Physical Education and Commercial fitness. Joy has been a Level 2 USAC Cycling coaching and ACE Certified Personal Training Certification since 2011. She has also held a valid First Aid/CPR/AED certification since 1998. Joy resides in Southern CA where she taught Physical Education and Health for 8 years before creating BWC. Joy is a professional mountain biker and cat 1 road racer. In 2014 she won both the Criterium and Time Trial Championships for the Elite Women in the SCNCA.

And with depth comes the opportunity to use our fitness in all sorts of different ways.
•
So although it’s easy to get obsessed with results and podium photos, never forget that the confident smile that comes with fitness earned is better than any podium photo we’ve ever seen.
•
Athlete Highlight: Strong looks good on you!
•
To say that Laurie has a full plate as a Super-Mom and working professional, while keeping family as a priority would be an understatement.
•
But she always makes the time for fitness!
•
The last few weeks Laurie has been a “jack of all trades” kind of Athlete. She raced a Summer Series race mid week, then raced her first ever Criterium at Round 5 of the criterium Series a few days later. Then one week later she and her teenage son Beric rode to a hard-earned 2nd place finish at the SCNCA Team Time Trial Championships in the “mixed category”.
•
It’s not a conventional kind of calendar, but with solid fitness and a great attitude, it has become a successful one for Laurie.

President Teddy Roosevelt had many great quotes and lived a harrowing life.
•
As a young boy he was sickly and weak, kept inside for fear of becoming ill.
•
But one day, something changed and becoming strong became a focus, and you might say, “the rest is history”.
•
This simple quote, and his illustrious life, reminds us that life punches hard, and thus it’s better to maintain a solid state of “readiness” rather than the “ill get ready when I need to” mentality.
•
Everyday discipline may be uncomfortable, but it’s not nearly as difficult as trying to climb out of the “fitness basement”…
•
Athlete Highlight: knows a thing or two about daily discipline and has managed to keep his fitness rolling after an awesome performance at 24HOP earlier this year.
•
Recently Juan got rowdy on his drop bar rig with his .r.t.racing teammates at the which started with the brutally challenging yet stunningly picturesque VIEJAS Grade climb in east county San Diego.
•
VIEJAS may be a brutal climb, but Juan managed to tame the beast with a smile on his face!
•
Way to go Juan! Thanks for showing us what readiness looks like and keeping it fun too! You rock, Buddy!

We are headlining the SATURDAY ROAD RIDES, and Sunday road!

Boy, does it feel good to score a big result!

But results are not guaranteed in this world.
•
Although success comes to those that work hard, everyone knows the formula for success is a bit more complicated than just putting in hard work…
•
Which is why Mr Robertsons quote makes a powerful point. If we stay focused on the process of developing fitness, honing performance skills, and dialing-in race-day rituals, results will not be in doubt.
•
So this week, let’s take a step back from the “end-goal” and instead focus on the investment we can make each day to make what we do more fruitful and fun!
•
Athlete Highlight: Jon Flagg scored himself a big-win at San Diego recently, winning his age group in the Wafer distance.
•
Having faced a myriad of setbacks this offseason that kept him from competition, it would have been easy for Jon to get discouraged and “throw in the towel”.
•
Yet, he exhibited great dedication and patience as his “goal posts” kept shifting from winter, to early spring, to late spring…
•
But it was all worth it as Jon won his first race back this season in stellar fashion!
•
Great work Jon!
•

Calmness doesn’t always come to mind when Athletes consider the notion, “how can I be more powerful?”

Yet, as Mr Holland lays out in such simple terms, calmness is the foundation of power.
•
And we would go so far as to say that Mr Holland would agree that calmness produces both physical and mental strength.
•
In short, it’s great to be fired-up, but it might just be better to be calm and confident.
•
Athlete Highlight: has got himself quite a season going!
•
In just a few short days he earned himself both a 3rd place finish at the San Diego on his gravel bike, then backed it up with a great race win at the Over The Hump MTB race a few days later.
•
It’s a streak fueled by his calm demeanor and quiet confidence! Great work Frank, we are so proud of you, Buddy!

It’s great to have goals, but what matters most is our commitment to the work needed to hit our targets.
•
President Lincoln’s words drive home the point that goals backed by a promise to ourselves and a commitment to give our best is the recipe that will bring our dreams to life.
•
Athlete Highlight: knows a thing or two about commitment. As an ultra endurance athlete and top-five finisher at UnBound Gravel 350XL, Sarah couldn’t just say she was committed to her goal, she had to work for it all the way to the line!
•
And almost a year on from that mega-ride she is still charging and racing hard with a big smile on her face!
•
Last week she took on a BWC favorite, the Over The Hump series opener. Sarah had a great ride in the Elite Women’s field on a course that featured a brutally tough main climb, a stiff finishing kicker, and miles of twisty 2-track that challenged every riders technical skill.
•
And she did it all with a smile on her face!
•
We couldn’t be more proud of having Ms Sarah as a part of our Big Wheel crew of Athletes. She’s a ripper on any bike and at any distance! Great work Sarah!!!
