People sometimes ask me why I always buy gifts for my patients myself.
The truth is, there isn’t any special reason.
I just like choosing them personally. Sometimes I come across a pair of slippers that looks comfortable, a travel pillow that might be useful, or a small item that makes me think, “She would probably love this.” So I buy it.
To me, a gift has never been about its price.
The best moment is when someone opens it and smiles, saying, “This is exactly what I needed.”
But if I’m honest, the thing that brings me the most joy isn’t giving the gift.
It’s walking back to the hotel with my patient after a long day and seeing that they’re feeling well enough to chat, laugh, and share little stories on the way.
Many of them arrive carrying so much worry. They lose sleep, they overthink, and they wonder if everything will be okay.
When I finally see them safely back at their hotel, comfortable and at ease, that’s usually the moment when I quietly breathe a sigh of relief too.
People often think my job is arranging appointments, translating, or coordinating transportation.
Maybe that’s true.
But to me, the greatest reward is seeing my patients feel safe, cared for, and genuinely at peace.
