We’ve heard that after retirement, a person’s mental and physical health can decline very quickly. Is there any way to avoid falling into that situation?

Join a Buddhist practice community, meditate, practice Qigong, perform acts of merit, participate in charitable and social activities, and so on. These practices can help maintain a stable, joyful, and clear mind, as well as good physical health.

WHAT ABOUT PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT YET RETIRED? Do they need to participate in a Buddhist practice community?

People who have not yet retired are often very busy with many responsibilities in life. They also face many temptations, which can make them stressed and more vulnerable to making mistakes or losing their way. If you have a Buddhist practice community supporting you, you can feel more at peace as you work and cultivate yourself, without becoming exhausted or falling into unhealthy paths.

WHAT ABOUT YOUNG PEOPLE WHO ARE STANDING AT THE THRESHOLD OF LIFE, trying to build their careers and families? Do they need to participate in a Buddhist practice community?

When young people have a Buddhist practice community supporting them, they are more likely to know how to make the right choices for their future. This can help them avoid mistakes and failures later in life.

WHY CAN'T SENTIENT BEINGS LIVE KINDLY TOWARD ONE ANOTHER?

At a cave on Mount Makuta, the Heavenly King Sakka respectfully asked the Buddha:

"Blessed One, I have observed the whole world—the heavenly realms, the human realm, the realm of the Gandhabbas, the Asuras, and others. I see that all sentient beings wish to live in a world where there is kindness, no hatred, no war, and no ill will toward one another.

But, Blessed One, in the end, sentient beings still remain immersed in hatred, war, and ill will toward one another without end.

Blessed One, I wish to know: what fetter is it that causes sentient beings to be unable to live kindly toward one another?"

The Buddha replied:

"Vesava, Lord Sakka of the heavenly realm, it is precisely the fetters of selfishness and jealousy that cause sentient beings, although they wish to live kindly toward one another, to be unable to do so. Instead, they easily give rise to hatred, war, and ill will toward one another."

"How true indeed, Blessed One. My doubts about this have now completely disappeared. But, Blessed One, from what do selfishness and jealousy arise?"

The Buddha answered:

"Vesava, Lord Sakka of the heavenly realm, selfishness and jealousy arise from feelings of liking and disliking. Feelings of liking and disliking arise from desire. Desire arises from discursive thinking and mental activity. Discursive thinking and mental activity arise from delusive imagination.

"Vesava, Lord Sakka of the heavenly realm, in order to eliminate delusive imagination, a practitioner must know what should be associated with and drawn close to, and what should be avoided and abandoned."

Sakka then said:

"Blessed One, today, eighty thousand devas and I have attained the Dhamma Eye of purity. I have gone beyond craving. I know clearly the place of my rebirth, and I can choose the place of my rebirth if I wish. Mindfulness and Clear Comprehension are always present in my mind. I know with certainty that I will attain complete enlightenment and liberation.

I do not know how to fully express my reverence for the Blessed One. The Blessed One is like the sun shining upon this world to save sentient beings..."

THE INNER STRENGTH GAINED THROUGH BOWING TO THE BUDDHA 🙏🙏

When we first come to the Dharma and begin our spiritual practice, we start as someone who knows very little. We diligently bow to the Buddha, offering prostrations again and again with a heart filled with sincerity and reverence. Through repeatedly bowing to the Buddha with genuine devotion, we gradually develop inner strength and spiritual resilience.

Remember this well: those who are mentally weak are often those who rarely bow to the Buddha. The more we sincerely bow to the Buddha, the more our inner spiritual strength grows, little by little, until it becomes firmly established.

Once this inner strength has developed, we naturally gain determination and perseverance. We become capable of doing things that once seemed difficult. We diligently volunteer at the temple, joyfully serve the Buddhist community, and enthusiastically perform acts of kindness outside the pagoda—repairing roads, helping the poor, and benefiting others. As our spiritual strength continues to grow, we are able to accomplish many wholesome deeds and accumulate abundant merit. 🙏🙏

🙏🙏 A traveler who joined a 3-day meditation retreat at a peaceful pagoda nestled amidst beautiful forests and mountains was truly impressed by everything the retreat had to offer. From the Buddhist teachings he learned, the spiritual practice sessions, and the deeply tranquil meditation, to experiencing the friendliness and openness of the Monks, Nuns, and lay Buddhists there, every part of the retreat left a profound impression on him.
He hopes that everyone will come here and experience the retreat at least once, so they can discover the benefits it offers and transform themselves into better people.🙏🙏

"The Buddha taught: Being shown your faults is like being shown where gold is buried."

When we first begin practicing, we often hope that many people will point out our mistakes and offer us sincere advice. But those who are truly mature in their spiritual cultivation quietly reprimand themselves without anyone knowing. They constantly examine their own shortcomings without waiting for others to remind them. In everything they do and every word they speak, they recognize where they are still mistaken, where they have been careless, and where they still need to improve.

Before others even have the chance to notice their faults, they have already perceived the subtle defilements hidden deep within their own minds. We, on the other hand, are often the opposite—we fail to see our own faults while the whole world can clearly see them. Therefore, when we first begin our practice, we should cultivate humility, learn to listen with an open heart, and gratefully accept the teachings, admonitions, corrections, and sincere advice offered by others.
