Standing Against Femicide: From Public Condemnation to Institutional Responsibility
Today, the ASSIST Kosovo Center team, together with representatives of the Women's Democracy Network – Europe & Eurasia, joined the public protest against femicide and gender-based violence.
Femicide must be understood not as an isolated or private act of violence, but as the most extreme manifestation of gender-based violence, rooted in broader patterns of inequality, coercive control, discrimination, and institutional failure to prevent and respond effectively to violence against women.
Our participation reflects a clear commitment to advancing human security, women’s rights, institutional accountability, effective prevention, and access to justice. Protecting the lives of women and girls requires more than condemnation after a killing occurs; it requires coordinated institutional action, early intervention, effective risk assessment, survivor-centred protection mechanisms, and sustained investment in prevention.
From law to action means ensuring that rights and legal protections are translated into safety in women’s everyday lives.
We stand in solidarity with the victims, their families, and all those demanding a society in which women can live free from violence and fear.

From Law to Action: Turning Commitments into Effective Protection

Today, ASSIST Kosovo Center and NVO Zensko pravo convened representatives of institutions, civil society, women’s organizations, law enforcement, the judiciary, the media, and international partners to discuss ways to strengthen prevention, protection, coordination, and accountability in addressing gender-based violence in Kosovo.

Building on the regional discussions held in North Mitrovica and Gračanica/Graçanicë, today’s concluding roundtable provided a platform for constructive dialogue, shared responsibility, and the development of concrete recommendations to enhance institutional and community-based responses.

Laws alone are not sufficient.
Sustainable change requires translating legal commitments into effective action.

A Master of Economics, gender equality activist, and Executive Director of the Youth Organization Center for Minority Communities in Gračanica, he is dedicated to empowering young people, promoting gender equality, strengthening civic participation, and creating opportunities for social and economic inclusion.

On je master ekonomije, aktivista za rodnu ravnopravnost i izvršni direktor Youth Organization Center for Minority Communities u Gračanici. Posvećen je osnaživanju mladih, promovisanju rodne ravnopravnosti, jačanju građanskog učešća i stvaranju mogućnosti za socijalnu i ekonomsku inkluziju.

Një zhvillim i rëndësishëm për të drejtat dhe shëndetin e grave vjen nga Mali i Zi.

Me iniciativën e Jevrosima Pejović, deputete e pavarur në Kuvendin e Malit të Zi, është avancuar e drejta për pushim menstrual për gratë që përballen me gjendje të caktuara shëndetësore.

Ky është një shembull se si lidershipi politik i grave, avokimi dhe politikat e ndjeshme gjinore mund t’u përgjigjen nevojave reale të grave.

Në ASSIST Kosovo, besojmë se praktika të tilla progresive duhet të nxisin diskutim edhe në Republikën e Kosovës dhe të bëhen pjesë e agjendës për shëndetin, mirëqenien dhe të drejtat e grave në vendin e punës.
