I made this image with MetaAI, it is to illustrate what Ann Redman probably looked like in 1697, when she so famously took Thomas Lloyd to court for her freedom.

It’s my belief Ann got pregnant with Thomas Lloyd’s child, a son born around 1695 and named after the father, Thomas.

It’s my belief Ann is a daughter of Edward Mozingo, the African servant freed in 1672. It could be Edward interacted with Ann’s mother Jane who was a servant to William Lloyd, Thomas’s father, either prior to his freedom say around 1670 or after around 1673. Edward’s master was John Walker and he died in about 1669.

So, this is my family story, like that of Roots.

In 1701, Samuel Bayley inherited land next to Edward Mozingo, then in 1718 Samuel appraised the estate of Ann Lloyd whom I believe to be Ann Redman. My theory is her father is Edward Mozingo!
