News flash: Iâm 63, Iâm in a massive muscle deficit AND I have diagnosed osteoporosis in my spine. Osteopenia in my hips. (I blame the 70âs & 80âs đ«Ł).
Iâm gobsmacked by the influencers (women over and under 50) who built their impressive muscles in a completely different decade - saying things like:
âThis is how I build muscle over 50!â
â- and clearly indicate theyâve been building that muscle for 30 yrs.
It needs to be clarified that maintaining muscle built in your youth is very different than building from scratch after 50. The time, energy, nutritional commitment and REST involved are DIFFERENT.
Throw aging joints, osteopenia or osteoporosis in the mix and we are on different planets. đ”âđ«đ
Building muscle is a years-long process. Building bone density is now a LIFETIME COMMITMENT.
Strength, function and capacity are intertwined and after 50, many of us are rather starting from scratch.
Iâm one of them.
Now, my âscratchâ will be unique to me - just as yours will for you.
The point is - âexpertsâ who started in one of the EASY SEASONS doesnât actually know the HOW/WHY/WHAT of starting late.
Far more rest
Much slower progression
Stretching mandatory
Joint evaluation daily
Nutritional deficiencies addressed
SLEEP
Walking
PATIENCE
TIME
Itâs no longer a destination.
Itâs the rest of your life. đȘđŒ
