🌍🧡 A MESSAGE FROM WFMH LEADERSHIP

This World Mental Health Day 2026, we are reminded that genuine progress begins by listening to people with lived experience—but it cannot end there.

💬 “Listening is only the beginning. Real voices must lead to real changes.”

WFMH President Sabine Bährer-Kohler, President-elect Silvia Raggi and Secretary-General Tsuyoshi Akiyama invite people, organizations, professionals and communities worldwide to help create meaningful change.

📣 SAVE THE DATE—and join us online!

This World Mental Health Day, we are bringing together people with lived experience and mental health leaders from around the world for a special webinar:

🌍 “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change”

What does it take to ensure that people with lived experience are not simply listened to, but are able to shape policies, services, and practices—and drive lasting change?

Hosted by the World Health Organization, World Federation for Mental Health, United for Global Mental Health, and the Global Mental Health Action Network, this 75-minute webinar will feature experts by experience from three continents and representatives from the partner organizations.

We will discuss:

💬 Meaningful participation in mental health decision-making
🤝 Practical examples of lived-experience leadership
🏘️ The transition from institutional care to community-based support
⚖️ Rights, dignity and person-centred mental health care

The event will also launch WHO’s practical guide on supporting the transition to community-based mental health and social care.

EVERY VOICE HAS VALUE 💬

Every experience is different. Every perspective has value. Every voice deserves to be heard.

Our lived experiences shape what we know, how we understand the world, and what meaningful change can look like.

This World Mental Health Day 2026, we are beginning with a simple but powerful message: everyone has something valuable to contribute.

When we listen with openness and respect—especially to people with lived experience of mental health challenges—we can build greater understanding, challenge stigma, and create services and communities that respond to people’s real needs.

Let us make space for every voice.
Let us listen.
Let us turn real voices into real change.
