📊 How do your preschoolers compare to age expectations on the Intelligibility in Context Scale (ICS)?

The ICS provides valuable insight into how well a child is understood by different communication partners in everyday settings, including family members, peers, teachers, and unfamiliar listeners.

In this normative sample of 803 English-speaking preschoolers, mean scores ranged from 4.2-4.5 out of 5, suggesting that most children between ages 4 and 5 are understood usually to always across communication partners.

I find the ICS particularly helpful when discussing functional communication outcomes with families and when documenting intelligibility beyond single-word articulation measures.
