Homeschool Truths
Last year (2022) we had a slow start in term 1 with ear surgery and floods. By term 2 we were quite stranded at home with one car and took all day to do our school work. Frequent breaks and really nailing our lessons by the end of the day.
In term 3 I started working in a cafe/takeaway shop which really cut into our learning time. But we had a car again so spent our mornings participating in various activities, sport, music and homeschool meet ups. The academic work fell by the way side but we were excited to get out and about, to meet people and get active.
This year in 2023 I have switched work and don’t start until very late arvo and into the evening. My work is incredibly flexible with start times and if need be I can bring Dom. This gives us the whole day to get through our academic work. Even though it’s only the start of week 2 of term 1 this change has made a huge difference in what we are able to accomplish. We take frequent breaks again, I get more done around the house, I can implement a flexible workout regimen and I don’t feel pressured to get everything done in such a short time. Which makes me less cranky and Dom is certainly happier learning.
It’s going to be a great year. We have flexible structure which allows us to get everything done.
