Delaware just took a major step towards protecting donor conceived people and their families.

The legislature has passed SB 250, and the bill now heads to Governor Meyer’s desk to be signed into law.

SB 250, Delaware’s version of the Uniform Parentage Act, provides donor conceived people the right to know their genetic origins upon adulthood and ensures legal recognition for families built through donor conception.

SB 250:
• Requires identity disclosure to donor-conceived adults age 18 or older upon request
• Grants access to medical information collected at the time of donation to recipient parents and donor conceived adults
• Provides essential legal protections for donor conceived children and their families

The Delaware Senate Health & Social Services Committee is considering SB 250.

SB 250 provides donor conceived people the right to know their genetic origins upon adulthood and ensures legal recognition for families formed through donor conception. These are the same DCP protections passed in Oregon last year!

Share your support and urge them to VOTE YES!

The committee will consider SB 250 at a hearing on Wednesday, March 25 at 10:00 AM ET.

My husband and I just told our son (26) and daughter (24) they were donor conceived. We explained we were counseled by many medical/psychology experts not to reveal the truth, which is why they’re only now learning the truth. While they handled the news very well, my daughter is angry we waited so long to tell them. She is very concerned about the potential of past or present relationships with someone who could be related because the number of siblings we’ve discovered through a donor-conceived-person network is astounding. Telling her the odds of this are low isn’t much consolation.

Tomorrow, January 30, the Nebraska Judiciary Committee will hear LB 1148, legislation that establishes clear legal rules for determining parentage when a child is conceived through assisted reproduction.

For donor-conceived people, clear parentage law is essential. Legal parentage determines who has parental rights and responsibilities, who makes medical and educational decisions, and who is legally responsible for a child’s care and support.

LB 1148 defines assisted reproduction, confirms that intended parents are legal parents, and clarifies that gamete donors are not legal parents. By modernizing Nebraska’s parentage laws, the bill helps ensure that families formed through assisted reproductive technology, including IVF and donor conception, are clearly recognized and protected under the law.

2. Enter 1148

3. Click “Submit Comments Online for LB1148”

4. Complete the form:
- Select “Self” under Representing

DEAR ASK A THERAPIST: I am a single mom by choice to-be who is looking for an ID release s***m donor. I've found a really great match that ticks all of the boxes but the profile doesn't have audio or any pictures (child or adult). Generally, the profile has less information overall than ones from other s***m banks. The medical information is equally complete compared to the others. It's mainly the interviewer’s notes, personal statements, and information about education that are less detailed. I originally went into this hoping to provide my future child with as much information about the donor as possible. Do you have recommendations for how to prioritize donor information availability vs. the donor matching characteristics I'm looking for? Will my child feel put out by not being able to look up what the donor looks like until they get the donor's full name? - RECIPIENT PARENT

DEAR ASK A THERAPIST: How do you deal with cultural differences in disclosure to your children? My parents are immigrants from a culture that focuses on genetic lineage and have warned me against telling my son (now nearly 7) about his origins. They also believe that because we are family, contacting any genetic siblings would not be a good idea. (It was an anonymous donation but we have contacted some genetic siblings.) They think that telling the world, especially the rest of our family, would bring shame as well. – RECIPIENT PARENT
