A shoutout to America who has been a force to reckon with in the OCEP program.

America came to the clinic with no previous eye clinic experience. Since starting, she has observed, shadowed, asked, learnt and is now teaching others in the clinic!

With her Spanish speaking skills, America learnt how to do intake on patients with eye issues, she learned and observed the various procedures, and shadowed the providers. And now, she has taken over the Exit Counseling role, which requires her to be much aware of what the provider says to the patient and what she needs to highlight to the patient.

We value and appreciate America for her rigorous work and dedication to the program, and thank her for her efforts in helping a positive change in the lives of so many.

Thank you Dr Khalil as well as all the OCEP personnel and volunteers who made the clinic run as smoothly as always.

Apart from other cases that Dr. Khalil evaluated and provided management advice for, she saw two cases where patients needed co-management. One patient required a neuro-ophthalmology opinion, and another needed a cornea evaluation. Both cases were immediately provided additional pathways to specialized care, with neuro-ophthalmology case getting an tele-opinion from Dr. Vivek Patel, Chief of Neuro-Ophthalmology at .eye, while the cornea case received a specialist tele-opinion from Dr. Marjan Farid, Chief of Cornea and Cataract at UCI Health Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, who is also Board Member at OCEP. Thank you so much to Dr. Patel and Dr. Farid for your timely help, which allowed the patients to get the best care they can get.

Tomorrow's OCEP clinic will be staffed by Dr. Hiba Khalil. who has ben coming to the clinic on a regular basis.

Dr. Khalil evaluates patients with diverse conditions such as cataract, glaucoma, corneal issues such as keratoconus, uveitis, diabetic retinopathy, oculoplasty conditions such as ptosis, etc. She provides treatment to those that come her preview, and has the clinic staff refer other patients that need more specialized care to others within the OCEP program. She also performs refractions on those that may need glasses.

Our staff make sure the patients get an appointment as soon as they can, which allows them to be seen soon by the eye care providers such as Dr. Khalil, which prevents diseases from progressing further.

Dr. Wang is a retina specialist at Kaiser Permanente Fontana.

Yesterday's OCEP Clinic with Dr. Austin Fox, Ophthalmologist and Glaucoma Specialist at UCI Health Gavin Herbert Eye Institute and UC Irvine School of Medicine.

Thank you Dr. Fox for your time and commitment to help the patients who access the OCEP clinic. We value your time in not just providing specialized care to the patients, but also also teaching the next generation of eye care providers as well as helping with research. We appreciate that very much!
