Anjali Mudra - Divine Offering

When bringing the hands together at the heart or third eye we invite a moment of self reflection, balance and harmony into our body and mind.

For me this is a gesture of gratitude, appreciation, surrender and devotion to this practice.

Our physical and mental state is largely dependant on the health of our nervous system.

Unfortunately so many aspects of our modern world drive us into a state of dysregulation, where we are unable to control our emotional responses.

However there is lots we can do to bring us back to a place of homeostasis and healing 👆🏼

A yoga practice can be an opportunity to allow emotional blockages, unconscious tension and trauma to release from the body.

The places where we hold tension in the body is linked to certain repressed emotions.

We hold mental tension in our shoulders and emotional tension in our hips.

Tension in the shoulders? Perhaps you feel weighed down or burdened by too many responsibilities and the stress of life. Balancing the weight of multitasking. Perhaps you feel an inability to let go, forgive or communicate.

The hips are emotionally charged, a place where we store some of our deepest vulnerabilities…fear, grief, frustration, anger and worry.

Gently opening and breathing into hip or shoulder opening yoga postures can truly help to release and process this stored emotion if you allow.

The breath will carry you. Soften your edges and let go.

Spirals 🌀

Once we begin to look we find spirals everywhere in nature. Weather systems, plants, fingerprints, crown of hair, shells, our own dna.

In ancient times a sacred symbol - symbolising the cycle of rebirth and Mother Nature - growth and evolution.

Our fibers wrap around our bones, our fascia wraps around and through them and our bodily fluids flow in a spiralling current. Spiral movements invite sensations of ease, fluidity, creativity and pleasure.

I incorporate spiral, circular movement into my classes, especially my Pregnancy Yoga classes as it can feel very natural to move the body in this way during pregnancy to soften, open and nurture. To feel primal. When our babies are born they often descend in a spiral movement. As the head emerges, the baby knows to rotate the shoulders and be birthed in a spiral wave of energy.

Issues in my tissues.

We carry issues, experience’s and trauma within our bodies. Each experience creates a reaction and a chemical response that we store either for short or long term. These old pains and past scars manifest as discomforts that are packed deeply.

A yoga practice helps us to dig deeper, to open and expand into areas of tension and stagnation and have an inner conversation.

Listen to your body, dig into those issues, and do the work to set them free.

Following my Mum & Baby Yoga classes I always encourage those who can, to stay behind for a coffee and catch up with other mums.

With a newborn your social life inevitably changes and you may miss being amongst your colleague’s. Motherhood can be an incredibly lonely time - but it doesn’t have to be.

I started teaching Mum & Baby Yoga primarily to bring women together. To create the opportunity for mums to feel less suffocated by the relentless of motherhood, share experiences, learn from each other, to feel seen and heard and to perhaps make new connections.

You are never alone, others are going through the same joys and challenges as you. Come for the yoga and then see what grows for you. Lasting friendships have blossomed from these post yoga coffees as we grow and transform together.

Friday 6th Jan 2023 is our first full moon of the year…the Wolf Moon.

A full moon influences us with feminine energy. Our intuition is heightened and emotions are intensified.

A time for introspection. The Wolf Moon brings the potential for pause and reflection as we consider the directions we want to take.

The Wolf reminds us to trust our instincts and use our inner wisdom, strength, intelligence and endurance.

A new cycle resets and we prepare for the rest of the year.
