In Chinese medicine, we may not always be fluent in the elaborate medical jargon of the West, especially when patients come in with a laundry list of ailments that sound like characters from a sci-fi novel. But our mission is refreshingly simple: help patients eat, sleep, and play well. Easy peasy, right? Well, science backs us up! Research shows that skimping on rest and piling on stress can turn your brain into a grumpy, foggy mess, while also unleashing a squad of inflammatory bad guys like cytokines, interleukin-6, and C-reactive protein. These sneaky molecules, meant to protect you, can go rogue and lead to serious health issues like heart disease, diabetes, stroke, cancer, and Alzheimer’s if left unchecked. So, the prescription for a happier, healthier life? More naps and less stress!

Belly breathing, or diaphragmatic breathing in Qi Gong isn't just about looking zen; it's like giving your body a turbo boost! It balances your nerves, turbocharges oxygen delivery to your organs, and keeps your Qi flowing.

Whether you're chained to your desk, locked in a staring contest with your screen, or stuck in a never-ending game of caregiver tag, belly breathing or diaphragmatic breathing is so easy, you can sneak it in anywhere, anytime, and any place—even during a bathroom break!

Don't forget to breathe, unless you want to join the fish in the pond!

How can you expect your body to last for a long and enjoyable lifetime if you don’t put the proper building blocks in there?

An old Chinese proverb states “Waiting to treat an illness after they manifest is like waiting to dig a well after one is thirsty” – These are the principles of health maintenance.

Main philosophy of Yang Sheng in Chinese Medicine is “preventative medicine”, which aims to protect, promote and maintain optimal health before disease arises.

Why wait until you're sick to take care of yourself? Be like a smart phone battery—start recharging now before you hit 1%!

The commonly used herbs in Chinese medicine for treating type 2 diabetes such as Huang Qin, Huang Lian, and Huang Bai contain alkaloid Berberine. Remarkably, these herbs have been utilized for centuries to manage diabetes. It's fascinating to consider how ancient practitioners discovered the benefits of berberine without modern scientific tools.

It’s Spine Health Week!
TCM has long-standing theories, one of which is that "the Kidney Governs Bones and Spine." Many bone or spine-related issues are believed to stem from a lack of this kidney essence. Therefore, treatments that strengthen the Kidneys are often effective for chronic spine diseases.

The Kidneys are not just anatomical organs; they also function as complex endocrine organs. They secrete various substances and hormones that regulate bone health. For instance, erythropoietin (EPO), produced in the Kidneys, plays a key role in bone remodeling by activating certain signaling pathways. Additionally, the active form of vitamin D, known as 1,25-dihydroxy-vitamin D3, is produced in the Kidneys and is crucial for bone formation by managing calcium and phosphorus levels in the body.

Therefore, when addressing spine problems, the TCM acupuncture points prescription will focus on treating both the underlying Kidney deficiency (root problem) and the pain itself (symptoms). Feel free to contact us to learn more about how we can help to manage your spine related problem in a holistic way.

World Asthma Day 7/5/2024

Asthma, a global health concern affecting a staggering 260 million individuals annually, demands our immediate attention. With an alarming 450,000 preventable deaths attributed to it yearly, it's clear that effective management is paramount. Even in Australia, where 1 in 9 adults and 1 in 5 children grapple with asthma, the urgency cannot be overstated.

No matter the severity, the looming threat of a severe attack persists, making a comprehensive asthma management plan not just advisable, but imperative. Traditional Chinese medicine offers a promising avenue for holistic care. Known as Xiao Chuan, asthma in this context is addressed through acupuncture and tailored herbal remedies, targeting symptoms like breathlessness, wheezing, inflammation, muscle tightness, and cough.

By integrating these ancient practices with modern approaches, including dietary adjustments and lifestyle recommendations, individuals can take proactive steps to safeguard their lung health and overall well-being.

Sometimes following acupuncture, some feel worse before they start feeling better. People can feel tired after acupuncture. The fatigue after acupuncture is your body telling you that it's depleted. Feeling fatigued after acupuncture is not cause for concern, but it is a sign that you need to rest. In natural medicine circles this is sometimes referred to as a healing crisis. The idea is that as your body starts undergoing the changes involved in moving toward health, things get stirred up. acupuncture can cause symptoms to become more intense after a session. Due to this intensity of some of the reactions, sometimes people feel unsure about continuing treatment, but the effects are beneficial, and they are a necessary part of the process.

Guess what's in store for you? Those daytime dozes aren't just for slackers anymore – they're your brain's secret superhero! Scientists from University College London and the University of the Republic in Uruguay uncovered the magic: regular napping might just be the ultimate brain tonic. They discovered that habitual nappers could be growing their brains by a whopping 15 cubic centimeters – that's like giving your brain its own expansion pack! And the icing on the cake? While they couldn't pin down the perfect nap duration, past studies suggest that quickie catnaps of 30 minutes or less are the brain's best friends. Plus, sneaking in a snooze earlier in the day won't mess with your nighttime beauty sleep. So, dive into those midday dreams and let your brain embark on its own epic adventure!
