One of our favorite herbs growing right here in the gardens at Whispering Woods Apothecary is lemon balm (Melissa officinalis).

With its bright lemon scent and cheerful green leaves, lemon balm has been treasured by herbalists for centuries. Traditionally, it has been used to support relaxation, encourage restful sleep, ease occasional digestive discomfort, and promote overall nervous system wellness.

We love stepping into the garden, brushing against the leaves, and enjoying its fresh citrus aroma. It’s one of those herbs that seems to bring a little calm wherever it grows.

Traditionally used to support:
• Relaxation and a balanced mood
• Restful sleep
• Occasional nervous tension
• Healthy digestion
• Overall wellness and vitality

As an added bonus, pollinators love it! Lemon balm is a wonderful herb for supporting both people and beneficial insects in the garden.

Growing your own herbs helps create a deeper connection with the plants and the traditions that have surrounded them for generations.

Have you ever grown lemon balm? What is your favorite way to use it—tea, tincture, fresh leaves, or something else?

“Leaf of Life”

One of nature’s most treasured traditional herbs is growing here at Whispering Woods Apothecary.

Bryophyllum pinnatum — also known as Miracle Leaf or Cathedral Bells — has been used in folk herbal traditions for generations and is loved for its soothing and supportive properties.

Traditionally, Leaf of Life has been used to support:
Respiratory wellness
Skin comfort and soothing care
General wellness practices
Herbal poultices and topical preparations
Cooling and calming herbal applications

Traditional Ways It’s Been Used:
Fresh leaves warmed and applied as a poultice
Infused into oils and salves for topical use
Added to herbal preparations and teas in traditional practices
Crushed leaves traditionally used in soothing herbal applications

This resilient plant is also admired for its ability to grow new life directly from its leaves — symbolizing renewal, strength, and abundance.

At Whispering Woods Apothecary, we’re passionate about learning from nature and honoring traditional herbal knowledge while crafting products inspired by the plants around us.

What’s Really in Your Tea Bag?

Most people reach for tea bags without a second thought…
but what’s inside (and around) your tea might surprise you.
Here’s the truth about many tea bags:

• They’re often filled with dust or fannings (lower-grade plant material)
• Some are made with bleached paper or plastic fibers
• When steeped, certain bags may release unwanted residues or microplastics
• You miss out on the full aroma, flavor, and experience of the plant

Loose leaf tea is a whole different story:
• Uses whole leaves, flowers, and herbs
• Richer in natural flavor, color, and aroma
• Gives you a more authentic connection to the plant
• No hidden fillers — just what nature intended

Hot or Cold — Your Way:
Loose leaf tea isn’t just for cozy nights…
It’s just as beautiful poured over ice on a warm day.

How to enjoy it:
• Hot: Steep, sip, slow down
• Cold brew: Add herbs to a jar of water, let sit 6–12 hours, strain & enjoy

At Whispering Woods Apothecary, we believe
your tea should be as pure and intentional as the plants it comes from.

Because plant medicine isn’t meant to be rushed…
it’s meant to be experienced.

Once you go loose leaf, you’ll never look at tea bags the same.

We will soon be adding loose leaf teas to the Apothecary website!!
