👂 Sensory System Spotlight: Auditory (Hearing)
The auditory system helps us process sound, rhythm, volume, and speech. For some children, busy classrooms, loud environments, or unexpected noises can make it difficult to focus, regulate emotions, and participate in learning.
When the brain is overwhelmed by sound, children may cover their ears, become distracted, seek quiet spaces, or appear restless. These responses are often signs that their nervous system needs support.
🎵 Calm Idea:
Use predictable, calming sounds to create a sense of safety and reduce sensory overload.
✨ Try This:
• Listen to nature sounds such as rain, ocean waves, or birdsong
• Play soft instrumental or classical music during quiet activities
• Create a calming "sound bubble" with noise-reducing headphones
• Practice gentle rhythm activities like clapping or tapping to a steady beat
Predictable sounds can help children feel calm, focused, and ready to learn.
🧠 Supporting the auditory system helps build attention, regulation, and learning readiness.

👀 Sensory System Spotlight: Visual (Sight)
Did you know that the visual system is about much more than seeing clearly?
Our visual system helps us make sense of light, color, patterns, movement, and the world around us. When there is too much visual information—bright lights, cluttered spaces, busy walls, or constant movement—it can make it harder for children to focus, regulate their emotions, and learn.
✨ To Support Regulation:
• Reduce visual clutter
• Dim harsh lighting when possible
• Create calm, organized spaces
🎯 Try This:
• Watch a slow-motion glitter jar and follow the movement with your eyes
• Go on a "Visual Scavenger Hunt" and find 5 blue things in the room
• Look for shapes, colors, or patterns in nature
These simple activities help children slow down, focus their attention, and feel more grounded in their environment.
🧠 When we support a child's sensory system, we help build the foundation for attention, regulation, and learning.
