Minds In Motion, LLC An Occupational Therapy practice providing quality care to children and families in Hampton Roads, VA

Minds in Motion is an occupational therapy practice providing quality care to children and families across the Tidewater area. Our mission is to help children develop skills that enhance their independence and support their overall happiness to function in all areas of life, including home, school, and play. We believe that the best way to do this is to encourage children to be active thinkers and

participants in their therapy sessions. We pride ourselves in helping your child make generalized progress as they develop lifelong skills. We provide a safe and nurturing environment that fosters a child’s strengths, taps into their motivation, and challenges them to think, move, and adapt to new situations. We also provide caretakers with adequate support and education regarding their children with disabilities and/or regulation difficulties.

It started with one child.
One child whose needs weren’t being met.
One child who deserved to be seen, understood, and supported.
And from that… a school was born ✨

From a mom who refused to let this be “it” for her child. She built what she needed and for the last 5 yrs I dedicate two weeks to do everything I can to give them the best OT, training and care I possibly can.

ATOC in Paramaribo Suriname, SA

A space built on acceptance, connection, and the belief that every child deserves access to meaningful support. What began as a response to one child’s journey has grown into something that now impacts so many others.
If youde like to support this school there is a link in my bio.

This past session our soccer class wasn’t just about goals—it was about growth. Each child showed incredible effort and determination, building confidence, connection, and joy in their own unique way. We celebrate every step, every effort, and every moment of teamwork—because here, success looks different for everyone, and every version of it matters. ⚽💛 Shout out to Coach Dupe who pushes them to be the best they can be. He’s made this so much fun but more importantly make each one feel seen and special 👏🏽

Shared attention and engagement are foundational because they are the gateway skills that allow learning, communication, emotional regulation, and relationships to develop. Without them, even the best teaching strategies often don’t land. Learning happens through connection. This moment was BIG for us✨

• Partner meaningfully with parents and caregivers

🌱 What we offer:
• Flexible part-time schedule
• Supportive, collaborative team culture
• Mentorship and growth in relationship-based approaches
• A practice that truly aligns with your values

M is back to show you all how we integrated STNR this week! We collaborated his ideas and my ideas to come up with this move. See the above video for how he was exploring with rings first which helped us to get started.

🧠 STNR
The Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (STNR) plays an important role in early development—but when it sticks around too long, it can impact a child’s ability to:
✏️ Sit upright at a desk
📖 Read and write efficiently
🤸‍♂️ Coordinate upper and lower body movements
🪑 Maintain posture and attention

💡 In pediatric OT, we look beyond the behavior and ask why. Reflex integration, core strength, and postural control all matter—and the right movement-based strategies can make a big difference.
✨ Support the nervous system first, and skills will follow.

For a lot of kiddos working on primitive reflex exercises can be HARD. Sometimes starting a bit easier and working our way up can really help!

This video shows prep to target the primitive reflex Assymetrical Tonic Reflex (ATNR) but we’re starting here with cars to encourage weight bearing and head movement first! Typically we want to target more bilateral movement (both sides of the body) to integrate but if your kiddo is having a tough time, getting on all fours and crawling or watching cars move can be a good start.

This reflex is responsible for helping a child safely move through the birth canal. It’s also a primitive reflex that helps babies move and explore.

➡️ When ATNR isn’t integrated, children may struggle with:
✏️ Handwriting & crossing midline
📖 Reading & visual tracking
🤸 Coordination and posture
🪑 Sitting still and using both sides of the body together

In therapy, we target ATNR to help the brain and body work together, laying the foundation for stronger motor skills, attention, and confidence in daily tasks 💪

Shoutout to my friend here who asked me if he would be famous for this video 😁 and happily wanted to show you his hard work. Neurodevelopment OTLife ChildDevelopment
