Happy Easter! We hope your Resurrection Sunday was full of great celebration and special time with family.
Daniel and Faith both had doctor’s appointments this week. Daniel‘s was a colostomy reversal post-op appointment. His weight restriction was increased to 50 pounds, so he is now able to lift Faith and can get back to moderate physical activity.
Faith had an appointment with her plastic surgeon in Little Rock at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Although the steroid injections she received in her foot over the past months did help smooth out the graft scarring and relieve tightness in two of her toes, the big toe is still tight. The plastic surgeon believes the best option is to redo the skin graft.
The graft has not failed, but redoing the graft will allow for greater flexibility of her big toe. This is not an urgent need but something that will need to be done before she grows significantly. This was not news we expected, but we are so grateful for the knowledge of her plastic surgeon and for the purpose her initial graft served. The initial graft got her through learning to walk (and run). That is definitely something to be thankful for!
The process to redo the graft will be at least 5 weeks, possibly all (or primarily) outpatient. The first step in the process is scheduled for July 17. We will provide updates through the process.
Since Faith’s appointment was during Daniel’s spring break we spent the rest of the day touring the Arkansas State Capitol building, Hot Springs and the glass chapel at Garvan Woodlands Gardens just outside of Hot Springs. We hope you enjoy the pictures of Daniel and Faith through their continued recovery.
