Heart healthy eating exists on a continuum

First step is getting enough food.

Then

Focus on adding nutrient dense foods that are in your budget and taste preferences.

One option to support heart health is to add beans to a chopped meat dish, which will increase the fiber and decrease the saturated fat content of the dish🤍

Watch until the end, trust me!!

It’s the disconnect between mind & body

Drink water to fulfill hunger? Heck no. The only way to fulfill hunger is to eat👏

We intuitively know this, but years of dieting has us disconnected from our body’s internal wisdom.

Reconnect with your body’s cues and honor your needs.🤍 If you’re looking for more support with this, click the link in my bio to schedule a free discovery call for 1-1 coaching!

The best diet for you is the one that includes foods you love! ✨⁣

When you include foods you love every day, the holiday foods don’t feel as overwhelming ⁣

Eating foods that taste good to you on a daily basis is part of honoring your body, values, and needs.⁣

This sustainable approach can also be used for general wellness and to manage chronic heart disease, with the help of your registered dietitian 🙋‍♀️⁣

I’d love to help you find balance and finally be comfortable and confident around food. Send me a DM to learn more about nutrition coaching.⁣

Hands up if you agree! 🙌⁣

It’s common for a “goal weight” to be disguised as a “health goal”. What if your goal weight is getting in the way of you reaching your best health? ⁣

One thing to think about when answering this question is this..

If it takes unhealthy habits to reach your goal weight, then your goal weight is not supporting your health. Period.⁣

Because the truth is, there is no way an adult can meet their nutrient needs with 1,200 calories. This calorie amount is going to leave you undernourished, which does not support your health and wellbeing.⁣

This is especially true for those managing a chronic heart condition. Your body needs nourishment to heal and thrive! This means eating enough.⁣

If you’re ready to support your wellness or manage your chronic heart condition with balanced nutrition, send me a DM to sign up for coaching!⁣

Plant protein for the win 🙌

There’s a ton of information out there on what you “should” and “shouldn’t” eat when it comes to heart health, it can get overwhelming. Being overwhelmed does not serve you well, especially when it comes to behavior change.⁣

This is why I like to focus on nourishing foods to add to your meals. ⁣

By bringing the focus to one thing (i.e adding a plant based protein to meals) it becomes much easier to honor your body’s needs while eating foods that taste good to you, all without dieting.⁣

Not sure what to focus on? Want clear guidance on how to support your heart health without dieting? Send me a DM to book an inquiry call for nutrition coaching!⁣

Feeling low energy? Consider these two things before reaching for that extra cup of coffee☕️

Eat and sleep.

In adequate amounts and consistently

There’s no replacement for these two. Sure, caffeine can give you a burst of energy but it is not as long lasting nor does it provide the full spectrum rejuvenation of sleep and food. You cannot override these foundational needs for human life.

We cannot bypass our need for food and sleep through coffee or any dietary supplement. Period.

I often hear people asking for something that can “boost” their energy levels when what they actually need to consider are their foundational needs first

If you find yourself looking for that boost of energy, consider the following:
1️⃣Have you had adequate sleep within the past day?
2️⃣Have you eaten nourishing meals consistently today?

These are often excellent starting points for truly improving energy levels

**disclaimer this is general information. If you have low energy please consult your medical team for individualized advice

Raise your hand if you’ve ever tried squeezing into a specific size of clothing🙋‍♀️⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I have been there too, and this is all too common. Diet culture has us judging our bodies instead of respecting them.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Part of body respect is wearing clothes that fit you as you are in the present moment ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Not being attached to a specific size, but wearing what looks and feels comfortable to your present body⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Through intuitive eating you learn body respect which allows you freedom from being overly critical about your body. In doing so, prioritize your health above your clothing size. Bodies change throughout our lives. It is a natural a beautiful process to be embraced 🤍⁣⁣

07/10/2021

True care means caring for the patient as a whole human being, not just following the diagnosis treatment model. Way too often a patients overall lifestyle, beliefs, and habits get overlooked in healthcare. This is a huge mistake because the best treatment plan is crafted by a persons life as a whole.

This kind of quality care takes time. It is not supported by the current healthcare system. For example, health insurance limits dietitians to a small number of sessions per patient. Or in some cases, insurance doesn’t cover dietitian services. ⁣

Health care should not stop at prescribing medication or any singular treatment. It should include providing the patient the support they need to make health promoting changes in their lives… from a compassionate and mindful place. ⁣
