This is GREAT NEWS!! 🙌🏻
“Research published in the American Journal of Public Health shows women who receive doula support are 47% less likely to have a cesarean delivery, 29% less likely to experience preterm birth and 46% more likely to attend a postpartum checkup.”

Being called “Mama” is the most beautiful title my heart has ever carried. 🤍✨

Support, education and environment in everything!

A lot of women think they have a low pain tolerance until they give birth in an environment where they actually feel safe.

Read that again.

Because what many women call “I can’t handle pain” is often:
• fear
• tension
• lack of support
• being dismissed
• feeling out of control
• bright lights and constant interruptions
• people making them panic during contractions

Birth is physical, yes.
But it is also deeply mental and emotional.

A supported woman labors differently than a terrified woman.
And yet so many women go into labor more prepared for newborn photos than for understanding how fear affects the body.

When we’re afraid, the body tightens.
Breathing changes.
Stress hormones rise.
Pain intensifies.
That’s not weakness.
That’s physiology.

I’ve watched women who swore they “could never do unmedicated birth” labor calmly once they felt educated, supported, and safe.

And I’ve watched strong, confident women completely unravel after being ignored, pressured, or made fearful.

This is why support matters.
This is why environment matters.
This is why the way women are spoken to during labor matters.

Because birth is not simply about “how high your pain tolerance is.”

It’s about whether a woman feels safe enough to surrender to the process instead of fighting against fear the entire time.

As we look forward to celebrating Mother's Day this coming Sunday, may we be in awe of the miracle of new life and the precious gift of motherhood!

Ecclesiastes 11:5- "As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in the mother's womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things."

Reaching back into the archives on my website when I blogged about induction, a topic many doulas and midwives feel extremely passionate about. I think the information I presented here is still just as relevant and important today. **NOTE: I do think there is a time when an induction is necessary for the safety of mom and baby.** However, the majority of so-called "necessary" inductions are NOT actually medically necessary. This is why being educated is so key.

Induction (the process of starting labor using artificial means instead of allowing it to begin on its own) is very common in some obstetric practices. You can read more about what it is and how it...

This is great advice for expectant moms from a wonderful midwife I’ve been blessed to work with as a doula.

Thank you, Kimberly DeLay for shedding light on such an important topic. Ladies- your provider can make or break your birth experience! This is great wisdom.

No one quite prepares you for how much sacrifice new motherhood requires.

It’s the quiet, constant giving of yourself…your time, your energy, your body, your sleep. It’s putting someone else’s needs before your own, over and over again, without hesitation.

Some days, it feels like you’ve spent everything you have and then some. You miss pieces of your old life, your independence, your rest. And yet, you keep showing up, pouring into your baby in ways only you can.

If you’re in this season, know that what you are doing matters. It is sacred work. You may not think you're "doing enough." The truth is ...you ARE!

Remember to refuel. To take a break. To ask for help so you can get some much needed (and well-deserved) rest.

This season feels very long. But I promise...it doesn't last forever.
You will get through this, one day, one moment at a time.

We talk so much about caring for a newborn- and of course, that matters. But we don’t talk enough about caring for the mother who just brought that baby into the world.

A new mom is healing, physically and emotionally. She’s adjusting to a completely new identity, running on little sleep, and carrying the weight of responsibility for a tiny human. She needs nourishment, rest, reassurance, and support just as much as her baby does.

When we check in on her, bring her a meal, hold the baby so she can shower, or simply listen without judgment, we’re not just helping her…we’re helping the baby too. Because a supported, cared-for mother is better able to care for her child. Let’s normalize asking moms how they’re doing and really mean it!

If you’re expecting (or supporting someone who is), I’d love to help you feel more prepared and supported from the very beginning. My childbirth education classes focus not just on the birth and the baby, but on caring for you, too. Reach out or message me for details!
