HEALTH UPDATE- As of May 12, 2026, Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS/PCOD) has been officially renamed to Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS). This global name change, published in The Lancet, aims to better reflect that the condition is a complex, multisystem metabolic and endocrine disorder, not just a gynecological issue.
"Polyendocrine" refers to disruptions in hormones such as insulin and androgens, “Metabolic” acknowledges increased risks of weight gain, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease, while “Ovarian" maintains recognition of its impact on ovulation, menstrual irregularities, and fertility.
