Stuck...!
As we grow through life we face a lot of things and situations. Some are pretty petty, some not so much. Depending on our coping mechanism and support systems we either navigate through or get stuck.
Trauma is described as an event that stretches a person's capability to cope. You have your stamina, courage, money, time and mental capacity stretched so thin you snap. It often comes from loss of work, income, business, retrenchment, accidents, and the worst; loss of life. Btw even prolonged illness is traumatic.
It is important to dig deep and understand what each loss means to you because loss hits differently in relation to what is lost and what it meant to you. If it's a job, what does not working mean to you? If it's a person, what does the loss mean to you? If it's a business what did it mean to you? If it's loss of limb, what does your life look like and what did the limb mean?
Loss comes with a redefinition of circumstances. We get stuck because we do not know how to move forward. We don't have the mental capacity to process effectively the emotions, feelings(yes they are different 😁😉) and consequent outcome of this loss. It is at this point we get stuck.
Being stuck is inability to create for the creative, in ability to take care of ourselves, loss of joy in everyday events, even those activities we enjoyed. It is pushing people away unconsciously( we become irritable, snap, inconsolable, isolate and in extreme cases lose our sense of self). You know you're stuck when you are unable to move past the event, let alone face it. Unable to speak of it without feeling some typa way... Unable to get enough sleep, food, rest. You feel as though you are going round in circles reliving the moment.
Aaaah, but there's hope. You are not as alone as you feel... Find a close friend who is no judgemental and rip off the band aid. Make them understand where you are and what it's doing to you... Be vulnerable. Cry if you want. Let the emotions and feelings flow through you and embrace the peace that comes with the catharsis (I'm learning big words in school!) 😂😂😂 journal, walk, take that shower, brew that tea or coffee... Bake that bread do whatever makes you feel alive.
Somewhere in the midst of all this activity you will get to hear of others who have been in the same place and overcome. You will hear of others who have it way worse than you. You will hear stories of struggle, going back and forth and eventually overcoming. You will hear stories of people still going through the process and realize you are neither alone nor need to be stuck anymore.
My grandmother used to say there is nothing on this earth, you will face that hasn't been experienced before.
Been stuck? Talk to me I am on a journey myself and would love to hear where you are in yours... Let's get unstuck together.
