I call this place “the oasis” because it was a retreat in the middle of chaos.
In the year 2020 when the world was literally burning I signed myself into even more debt and built a home that people say, “feels like a warm hug” when they visit.
I ripped up carpet on day 1, I painted and shined up days 2-30, I filled the home with my belongings and memories on day 31, and restored, rebuilt, renovated, re-caulked, regretted, rejoiced and relaxed into homeownership days 32-300…
Then I packed my s**t up once again and relocated/rented my home out because (I’ll be back soon phillay don’t worry)
When I look at what I built I’m so proud. When I mark this 365th day of being a homeowner I am proud. When I reflect on the space I’ve taken from my home and how it’s helped shatter the sense of attachment I’ve built to this “thing” I feel proud.
My home is a beautiful reflection of me, it’s a warm hug born out of a wild effing time in the world and in my life. It’s also… just a house, filled with things, that do not matter one bit - without the people and experiences that take place inside of it.
Thank you to the people who have visited, thank you to the people who helped, thank you to the people who donated $$$$, blood, sweat and manual labor. Thank you to those who showed up when I wished my dad was there to see this day, who showed up when there were more tears than joy, and who literally helped me build a home out of a house. I won’t list you, but you know who you are.
