Today I feel like I’m drowning in a turbulent sea of feelings. Rolling along with these waves of grief.

My dad passed away a few weeks ago and while I’m comforted knowing he’s in a better place, my little child self REALLY misses my daddy. There’s this feeling of being untethered and lost. Everything feels a little upside down. “What do you mean I’ll never touch, hear, see him again??”

Grief is something we all face at some point in our lives yet most people don’t talk about it. I find myself hiding away, not wanting to “burden” my loved ones (or strangers for that matter) with my pain. I’m always telling my clients and students the importance of pausing to feel, allowing space for our emotions to come and move and integrate. But can I take my own advice now? I’m finding my own resistance to breathe. “I don’t want to feel all of this” “I don’t have any more tears to cry” “I don’t know how to do this” “How long will this last?”

If you are grieving know that I’m right there with you. My heart aches with you.

Today I paused. I breathed. I cried. I breathed. I. Am. Here. Now. In. This. And sometimes it hurts.

Pause. Right now. Take 3 deep breaths into your belly. Notice how you feel. Your breath is always there for you. Always. I love ya 🌬💗

I feel that now more than ever I rely on my anchor. It nourishes me and helps me to feel the ground underneath my feet.
As a teenager I used to go for long hikes and at some point I'd sit down on a rock with a beautiful view in front of me and soft nature sounds to soothe my ears. I would sometimes sit for hours, reflecting, breathing in fresh air and allowing myself to reconnect with my inner center, my inner axis. It wasn't until years later that I realized that without knowing it I had been practicing a form of meditation. Movement with breath - and then meditation became the Holy Grail for me to change my inner state. And it still is.
It's in stressful times like these that we can rely on our breath more than ever. It will never fail you, it will always make you calmer and when we are calm it changes how we perceive the world and how we react to it.
