Ava has definitely rewrote the rules and common side effects with these treatments. Her levels look great and we’re are out of a mild danger zone. Her hair, well, it is actually growing back!! It’s absolutely wild watching her little body just overcome cancer! It’s humbling and heartbreaking at the same time that she is so strong and resilient. We have one more week of Blina, and then finally a de-accessed break for some summer freedom! 🥰🎉🎗️☀️

Bag change day 😮‍💨 just 2 more after this! Then she will have some “downtime” or de-accessed time before her next block of blina. Today, we had a blip and dad had to go take care of job in another part of the state, so it is just the kids and I 😬. If they don’t burn the hospital down or cause a ruckus, it will be a great day! Here’s to hoping for a smooth, calm clinic with no hiccups!! I would appreciate the prayers for my sanity too for holding one child down and keeping the other one from freaking out too 🫣. Thank you to 7brew for our shakeys!

Thursday Ava had clinic to replace her blina bag with another one. The bag continually pumps through her port for a week at a time. Each clinic means checking in, waiting a couple hours for the blina to be made, then swept to the back for a full port change and new bag. She did great! 😌 Such a tough, sassy little turkey! We had an extra helper provide some squishy and dumplings to help get through it all.

Phase 3 finally started at 6:12 pm. Arkansas Children's provided Ava with a cute and fitting backpack to carry her blinatumomab in for the next 28 days. This will continuously pump. Blina is a targeted immunotherapy that is teaching the T-cells in the body to actively identify and destroy the cancer cells. It is an amazing drug that will hopefully change lives! We are privileged that Health Advantage approved Ava for this treatment to help her fight this cancer! 🎗️

Today did not go as planned 😔. Ava was unable to start Blina due to her reactions to the IVIG. She popped a fever all night and then at 4 today it just would not respond to Tylenol reaching 104.6. So they switched all meds from oral to intravenous. This seemed to do the trick as her temp is finally down to 98.8. Unfortunately, the IVIG also caused an extremely painful headache that led to her vomiting and just hunched over in agony. Anyone who has met Ava knows she has never been one to show pain, so we knew this was intense. They were finally able to get that under control as well. We are at a standstill right now until she is ready for the blina as they need clear waters to check for any reactions.
It is so hard and exhausting to watch your baby hurt knowing you can’t take it, and you truly don’t understand what they are going through. Hoping a restful night will help her have a better day tomorrow! Our days will continue to extend in the hospital until Ava shows her sassy self again. 🎗️🥺

Ava has made it to phase 3 of her treatment journey. She had another lumbar puncture with chemo (that’s 7 in a row for anyone counting 😖) and will have an infusion of IVIG this afternoon. This is to hopefully raise her antibodies enough to start the immunotherapy drug blinatumomab tomorrow. Currently, she is getting in a nap 😴 while we wait for admission into 4K for the rest of the week.

Return to clinic went as well as possible. Ava definitely was not happy about having a new “boo-boo” but once the port was accessed things went along. Sedation team was able to get her sedated safely for her lumbar puncture with chemo and a bone marrow aspiration. 🤞 this will be our last bone marrow!!! Ava got approved to have 6 more “free” days before we start our hospital stay on Tuesday. We are going to try to enjoy this heat 🥵 before being forced inside for 28 days 🫣! One last note: today was our last day of the consolidation phase 🎉🙌!!!!

Tomorrow Ava starts back to clinic 😮‍💨. We have enjoyed our 2 week break due to the viruses she had. Ava has played, enjoyed visits with family and friends, got to go swimming, ride her sxs, and just relax ☺️. Please say a prayer for her and us as we start back to our other “normal.”
