🎉🎉 Podcast Ep 4 drops 4 AUGUST … Unpacking all things dementia!

It’s no secret, we are all getting older, but how do we age well and live well?

More than 450,000 Australians live with dementia and many more are undiagnosed. Maybe you are concerned a loved one is showing early signs of cognitive decline.

Is dementia preventable and if you do get a diagnosis, what’s next?

🎙️ Ep 4 - Unpacking Dementia. Can we prevent it? features Professor Velandai Srikanth, one of Australia’s leading dementia experts, a geriatrician and Director of the National Centre for Healthy Ageing (NCHA)

Listen and learn more about:
🧩 What dementia is and why forgetting where you put your keys is probably not it
🧩 Why prevention starts at midlife, not old age
🧩 Myth-busting dementia prevention: does turmeric, Sudoku, alcohol and video games help?
🧩 What to do when a loved one with dementia ends up in hospital
🧩 Why giving hope to people diagnosed with dementia is so important.

💡 Is it safe to exercise when you’re in pain? Often, Yes!

Pain doesn’t always mean damage 🧠⚡ Sometimes it's real. Other times, it's your body's protective alarm system responding to stress or past experiences. The good news? Exercise can help retrain that system (thanks, neuroplasticity!) while building strength and confidence 💪

With National Pain Week bringing awareness to chronic pain, we wanted to share how the right movement can retrain your alarm system, and help you get back to doing the things you enjoy.

Tips for exercising with pain:
1⃣ Pain up to 3/10 during or after exercise is often OK.
2⃣ Monitor for 24 hours: If your pain settles back down within a day, you’re on the right track!
3⃣ Remember: Pace, don't rush. Introduce new exercises slowly to keep your brain and body feeling safe.

If you have questions about managing a flare-up, speak with a physio or your GP.

If you live near the Healthy Futures Hub in Seaford, why not join one of the FREE NCHA Ageing Well Clinics. Led by supervised physiotherapy students, these sessions provide a safe and supportive way to restart your exercise journey!
