🎨 A Smaller Class, But Still Full of Creativity 🎨

This week in art class we explored the beautiful work of Melchior d’Hondecoeter and created birds using tiny pieces of paper collage. Even though many people were away or unwell and our class was smaller than usual, the creativity and conversation still filled the room.

It was wonderful to see how layered pieces of paper could slowly transform into feathers, texture, and movement. Every artwork had its own personality and charm, showing how patience and small details can create something truly beautiful.

🎨✨ Exploring Henri Matisse Through Lino Cut Art ✨🎨

This week our art class explored the bold and expressive world of Henri Matisse. We learned how he simplified shapes, used flowing organic lines, and focused on strong visual impact rather than tiny details.

Inspired by his style, our students created tiger lino cuts filled with movement, pattern, and personality. Everyone absolutely loved learning about Matisse and experimenting with the lino cutting process. It was such a wonderful combination of creativity, design, and hands on art making.

The finished prints were bold, striking, and full of character. Another beautiful evening of courage, creativity, and learning together. 💛🎨

Self portrait day in kids art class was SO cool 🎨

The children created their own self portraits and it was amazing to see how each child viewed themselves in such a unique and creative way. From colourful backgrounds to funny expressions and tiny little details, every artwork had its own personality shining through.

Self portraits are such a wonderful way for children to build observation skills, confidence, and self expression through art. The room was full of laughter, creativity, and proud little artists showing off their masterpieces.

Today in art class, the kids painted beautiful colourful cacti. During the lesson, we explored different paint textures and learned how artists can use texture to create different effects in their artwork. From soft blended backgrounds to rough prickly cactus details, the children experimented with a variety of techniques and had so much fun seeing how paint can change and move in different ways.

The finished paintings were vibrant, creative, and full of personality. Every cactus looked completely unique, and the kids were so proud of what they created.

This week our art class was inspired by the beauty of stained glass art and the incredible work of Louis Comfort Tiffany. The room was filled with glowing colour, bold shapes, and beautiful decorative designs that truly came to life.

The results were absolutely exceptional. Every artwork had its own personality and elegance, and it was wonderful to see such creativity and confidence shining through each piece.

There is something so special about seeing light, colour, and pattern come together in a way that feels both timeless and expressive. Another beautiful evening of creativity and community. 💛🎨

Happy Mother’s Day from How Great Thou Art 🌸

What a beautiful Mother’s Day celebration we shared together at our Downton Abbey inspired afternoon.

The room was filled with tea, laughter, creativity, flowers, beautiful ladies, and so many special moments. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day feel so warm and welcoming.

A very special thank you to Brooke from Brookfield Bakery for her artistic and absolutely delicious cupcakes. They were not only beautiful to look at, but tasted amazing as well. 🍰

Thank you also to everyone else who helped with the baking and preparations behind the scenes. Events like these truly take a village, and I am so grateful for every helping hand.

Watching everyone create their tissue paper flowers and vintage brooches while enjoying Devonshire tea was simply lovely.

Thank you for spending part of your Mother’s Day weekend with us.

This week in our art class we explored the incredible work of Katsushika Hokusai and his iconic artwork The Great Wave off Kanagawa. We learned about his influence on the art world and how his flowing lines, movement, and bold compositions inspired artists for generations.

Using cicada paper, we painted expressive waves and watched the paint softly bleed through the delicate surface, creating beautiful layered effects underneath. The process itself felt fluid and organic, perfectly reflecting the movement of water.

It was such a creative and engaging session filled with experimentation, texture, and beautiful unexpected results. Every artwork had its own energy and personality.
